Title: Ray Cook Sixth in Shamrock at Cleveland; Puts on Promoter Hat Post by LMR on 03/13/13 at 2:59pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 13, 2013 ________________________________________ Ray Cook Sixth in Shamrock at Cleveland; Puts Promoter Hat on this Weekend BRASSTOWN, NC (March 13) - Ray Cook and his self-owned #53 team invaded the Chattanooga area on March 8-9 for a pair of Dirt Late Model showdowns. On Friday night at the Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia, a $4,000 top prize was on the line in an unsanctioned program. Ray laid down the fifth fastest lap during the qualifying session, which locked him into the inside of the third row for the start of the 40-lapper. Unfortunately, Ray was involved in a couple of incidents in turns one and two early in the race that sent him to the tail of the field. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace rallied back to eventually finish eleventh in the final rundown. The dirt-slinging action quickly shifted north to the renowned Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee on Saturday evening for the 18th Annual 'Shamrock.' Ray posted the second fastest lap in his group during Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) qualifying and later ran second in his heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the third row in the $10,000 to win 'Shamrock,' Ray ran sixth throughout the caution-free 50-lap affair and eventually crossed under the checkers behind only winner Randy Weaver, Mike Marlar, Billy Ogle, Jr., Dale McDowell, and David Payne. Full results from the doubleheader can be viewed online at www.boydsspeedway.net and www.clevelandspeedway.net. Ray’s #53 Super Late Model will sit idle in his race shop this upcoming weekend (March 15-16), as he will put his promoter hat on for the first time in 2013. His new Spring Nationals tour will kick off this weekend with the annual running of the ‘Spring Thaw’ at the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee. The next time that Ray will get behind the wheel of one of his MasterSbilt racecars will be March 23 in a Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series battle at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN.
