Title: Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series held its Awards Banquet Post by LMR on 01/16/13 at 1:55pm Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series January 16, 2012 ________________________________________ Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series held its Awards Banquet honoring the top-ten drivers in series points Money Galore Of the 16 race season, $295,150.00 was paid out in total prize money with the top-ten drivers earning $93,800.00 of the total share. Top-10 Driver Earnings -Now three-time series champion Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN earned the lion’s share of prize money this season taking home $31,700.00 in earnings and $10,000 for the championship paid by the series. Weaver entered 15 events taking six victories this season, seven top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes. -Runner-up and 2012 series Rookie of the Year Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN earned $6,450.00 for his 15 shows he entered plus $4,000 he took home at the season ending banquet plus $1,000 for being named the Rookie of the Year and a free voyage sponsored by Cruise with the Champions. Weeks took home one top five finish along with five top-10 finishes. -Third place driver Shan Smith of Dade City, Florida attended 12 of the 16 races earning $3,925.00 throughout the season and took home $2,000 in series points fund monies. Smith had two top-10 finishes this season. -Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN led the Blount Motorsports team with a stellar second half season by winning three SAS races, having five top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes. Ogle earned $19,750 throughout the eight races he attended and took home $1,500.00 for fourth place at the series banquet. -Fifth place driver Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN claimed one SAS win this past season while attending eight races. He had three top-five and three top-10 finishes while earning $6,850.00 during the season. Arp collected $1,000.00 in series points fund money. -Sixth place driver Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN earned $6,025.00 during the season while attending seven races. Hickman took home four top-five and four top-10 finishes. He also earned $500.00 in points fund monies. -Seventh place in series points was Jake Knowles of Tyrone, GA who attended seven races. He had four top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes. He earned $4,850.00 throughout the season and took home $500.00 in series money. -William Thomas of Phenix City, AL finished eighth while attending six races, one win on the season, and taking home three top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes. He earned $6,800.00 in those events and claimed $500 in series cash. -Ninth place finisher Mark Vineyard of Powell, TN attended six of the 16 races this past season recording one top-five and one top-10 finish. He took home $2,950.00 in those six races and $500.00 in series awards. -Final driver in the top-ten was Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL who claimed three top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes as he attended five races while earning $4,500.00 in total and $500.00 in series cash. Special Awards at the Banquet -The series named their first-ever Track/Promoter of the Year with the Award going to Casey Moses and crew of Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN. -The 2012 Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series Hard Charger of the Year Award went to Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN. -The 2012 Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series Sportsman of the Year Award went to Shan Smith of Dade City, FL. -The Chassis Champion Award went to Joe Garrison of GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR. -The Engine Builder Champion Award went to Jack Cornett of Cornett Racing Engines of Somerset, KY. -Special guests included Michael Moats of MRM Racing Photos, Ed Lowe of Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, Elaine White of WhitePerformance.com & Schaeffer’s Racing Oil and Jimmy ‘Pup’ Thomas of Hoosier Racing Tire. A special thanks was given to all series officials, tracks/promoters, media and sponsors for their continued efforts towards the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series. The 31st season of competition will open on Sunday March 3rd at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC for the annual March Madness event co-sanctioned this season with the Battle of the Eastern All Stars Tour (BEAST) paying $10,000 to win the 60-lapper. |
