Mark Dowdy Racing Scores Pair of Top-10 Finishes at Tennessee National Raceway

WATERLOO, AL (October 23) – The Mark Dowdy Racing ventured to a new raceway and has been competing the last two weeks at Tennessee National Raceway  (Hohenwald Tn.) capturing a pair of Top-10 finishes and a heat race win in the Pittman, Dutton & Hellums Law Firm/Rather Sewer Inspection Service/ JPM Promotions/ Maniac Race Engines/Warrior Chassis Limited Late Model.

On Oct. 13, 2012 the #88D Rather Sewer Inspection/Warrior race car started the heat in the 6th position. At the drop of the Green flag Dowdy got the jump on the car inside of him, plus split between the two cars ahead of him. At the conclusion of the first lap the Pittman, Dutton & Hellums attorneys at law car was running in the 3rd position. Mark then settled in and ran the rest of the race unchallenged, finishing 3rd. That put the #88D, FK Rod Ends hot rod on the outside of the 3rd row for the feature. Taking the green flag for the main event, Dowdy bolted into the 5th spot on the first lap, and by lap 5 was up to the 4th position. Then at the halfway point of the main event, Dowdy got into the back of the #302 car of Robert Stutts turning the car of Stutts around. Per the track rules, the #88D was sent to the tail while the #302 was put back in his position. Mark spent the remaining 10 laps of the race working back up through the field and brought the car home in a 6th place finish.

This past Saturday night October 20th, 2012 the team returned to TNR for another night of racing. Team Dowdy started their heat race from the outside front row. At the Drop of the green flag, the Maniac Racing engine roared to life and bolted to the lead. The #88D Warrior with Bilstein Racing shocks then cruised to a heat race victory, earning a front row starting spot for the main event. Starting the main event in the same spot as the heat race, Dowdy was hoping for a similar start. However, the C66 of Donald Johns fired even with Mark and they both raced into turn one together. Exiting turn two the JPM Promotion sponsored race car of Dowdy settled into second and began clicking off laps. It was apparent that Dowdy & Johns were content with running together as the two distanced themselves from the rest of the field. Even after several restarts for cautions, the C66 & 88D cars pulled away. Then with 3 laps remaining Dowdy found a different line entering the turns and started to apply the pressure to Johns. However he was not able to complete a pass and came up short crossing the finish line running second 1/2 a car length behind the leader.
