After Three Strong Runs Close To Home, Chub Frank Ready For Return To World of Outlaws Late Model Series Action

BEAR LAKE, PA (July 31) – Chub Frank authored three strong runs on his home turf during his two-and-a-half-week break from World of Outlaws Late Model Series competition.

Now the 50-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., is ready to head back out on the road with the national tour, heading to Wisconsin and Iowa this week for a three-race burst of action that he hopes will begin his stretch run for a top-five finish in the points standings.

Ranked fifth in the WoO LMS points battle after 27 events, Frank will begin his Upper Midwest swing on Wednesday night (Aug. 1) with a 50-lap event at Shawano (Wis.) Speedway. The circuit then moves to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for the $50,000-to-win USA Nationals 100 on Aug. 2-4 – a three-day show that also kicks off with a 50-lap Cornbelt Clash Series tuneup on Thursday evening – and Independence (Iowa) Motor Speedway on Mon., Aug. 6.

Frank hits the road with his Roush-Yates-powered Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1 machines after three successful starts at his longtime hometracks. He finished second in weekly dirt Late Model shows at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., on July 21 and Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., on July 22, and he added a solid fourth-place finish in Stateline’s inaugural Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series ‘Empire 50’ on July 24.

“We tried out a car we put together to run around home and we got a chance to see a lot of our fans and friends,” said Frank. “We had a good enough car to win at Stateline (on July 21) but we just didn’t have enough laps to work on (winner Dave) Hess (Jr.) because we had to come from ninth (starting spot). At Eriez, though, Hess kicked our ass – we started fourth and he started like 12th, but he was real good and just passed everybody to win again.”

In Stateline’s Lucas Oil Series event, meanwhile, Frank won his heat race and started from the outside pole in the feature. He held down second behind eventual winner John Blankenship during the event’s early stages but was passed by runner-up Mike Knight and third-place finisher Hess.

“(Scott) Bloomquist and I got into each other a few times running for second and that let Mike Knight get by – although Mike was good and had a chance to win the race,” said Frank. “The same deal between me and Bloomquist let Hess get by me too. Fourth place wasn’t too bad though.”

Frank had hoped to enter a weekly DIRTcar Late Model show at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., last Friday night, but rain washed out the program.
