Mark Dowdy Racing Scores Top-10 at Moulton Raceway

Waterloo, Ala. (July 10) – The Mark Dowdy Racing team took their Rather Sewer Services/FK Rod Ends//Maniac Race Engine/Warrior Chassis/Camaro to Moulton Speedway (Moulton, Ala.) this past Saturday night July 7th, Bringing home a top 10 finish.

The team raced there once last year, and this was the first appearance to Moulton this 2012 season. Moulton speedway admittedly is not one of Dowdy's favorite tracks. "It just seems to slick up and get one lane every time" said Dowdy. The team unloaded and hot lapped very quick. "After that is when I screwed up, I told Lee Strong (Head Crew Chief) to make a change on the car which I thought would loosen it up a bit." said Dowdy. However, it tightened the car up to the point that it had a push. Qualifying came around and the car was noticeably not as quick as before. The #88D, Pittman, Dutton & Hellums Attorneys at Law car qualified 10th out of 17 cars. Lee and Mark quickly reversed the adjustments on the car and prepared for the feature.

Starting 10th on the grid of the 17 car field in the feature, The DBR Starters equipped car quickly jumped to the bottom of the track and got in line like they seem to do at Moulton. After the first caution fell on the event, Dowdy had noticed the leader of #14 Brandon King running up top on the track. On the following restart, Dowdy took the Warrior chassis with Bilstein Race Shocks to the top of the track. It was at this point that Dowdy and the #WP65 of Will Penny Smith ran door to door for many laps. Smith on the bottom of the track and Dowdy running up top, inches from the wall. "That cushion was so touchy. If you hit it just right you could fly down the straight away. However if you missed it, You could be in the wall in a heartbeat". said Dowdy. On the final lap, Smith spun while entering the turn. "I just carried it in hard trying to get a good run coming off the turn, so I could stay with Mark, but it was a bit too hard, and it went around on me". said Smith after the race. Mark went on to finish in the 10th position and never got a scratch on the car all night. "It’s always a positive night when you can race side by side, get a top 10, and roll the car on the trailer at the end of the night" laughed Dowdy.

Team Dowdy plans to race at Thunderhill Raceway (Summertown, Tn.) next Saturday, July 14th. However, Marks fathers has been very ill as of late. "We will be at Thunderhill as long as my Dad is able to be home alone. We appreciate all the emails and inquiry's as to how my father is doing." said Dowdy. Mark's father, Lloyd Dowdy is battling stage 3 lung cancer. Mark's good friend and fellow racer Johnny Collier, owner of the #27 car driven by Cody Springer, has also been diagnosed with Lung Cancer just recently. We would hope that everyone keeps Mr. Dowdy and Mr. Collier in their prayers through this tough time. Mark's youngest daughter Darci Belle Dowdy has been home for summer break as well. Darci is heading to Michigan for some time with family up north and then heading to Ohio to go back to school. We have loved having Darci home for awhile and will miss her while she is back at school.
