Brandon Thirlby Sweeps The Weekend Again With UMP Super Late Model Victories At Cherry & I-96
Michigan Dirt Cup Late Models Tour at Hartford & UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour at I-96 On Tap This Weekend

Matt Prieur
Traverse City, Michigan (Thursday, June 21st, 2012): For the second time this season, Traverse City, Michigan’s Brandon Thirlby made it a clean sweep of his entire weekend of racing behind the wheel of his familiar #m14 Thirlby Automotive / Mastersbilt Racecars UMP Super Late Model. The 25-year-old won both his Qualifier Heat and the Feature race at his home track of Cherry Raceway in Fife Lake, Michigan on Friday, June 15th and then repeated the feat on Saturday, June 16th at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan.

In addition to leading the points chases in UMP Super Late Models divisions at both Cherry as well as at I-96, he’s also the current points leader in UMP DIRTcar Racing Series Late Models Michigan / Wisconsin / Canada State Championship as well as the current points leader in the inaugural season for the Michigan Dirt Cup Late Models Tour.

If that wasn’t enough, his six total Feature Wins to go with 10 top fives and 12 top 10 showings in only 17 starts so far in 2012 has propelled him up to 18th in the chase for the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series National Points Standings despite only appearing in 17 events while every driver above him in the National Points has at least 20 or more starts. The chase for the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series National Points takes the best 35 finishes to calculate the final points. While not even halfway to that point, Thirlby is in good shape to at least duplicate, if not exceed sixth place finish in the National points in 2011.

“Another all-around decent weekend of racing. Got a couple more feature wins under our belt. (Cherry Raceway Promoter) Roger (Steig) did a great job giving us a good surface to race on Friday night at Cherry, and (I-96 Speedway Promoter) Mike (Mouch) did the same Saturday over at I-96.” Thirlby remarked as he and his Thirlby Automotive Team prepare for a big weekend of racing coming up. Also, my younger brother Collin got his first Feature win at the Michigan Dirt Cup Modified show at Butler Speedway so it was great all around.” He added.

This Friday, June 22nd will be the third race of the inaugural campaign for the Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Late Models Tour Presented by Lane Automotive at the wicked fast 9/16s (0.563) mile semi-banked dirt oval of Hartford Motor Speedway, located east of Benton Harbor in Hartford, Michigan for the S&S Agriculture 27.

Then the team will take Saturday off in preparation for the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tours’ only appearance in the state of Michigan on Sunday, June 24th at I-96 Speedway for the 11th race of the tours’ 29-event schedule over a 32-day period.

For the rest of the 2012 racing season, Thirlby’s familiar black and purple #m14 UMP Super Late Models which is a Mastersbilt Racecar will carry sponsorship decals from Thirlby Automotive as well as Homestead Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, Integra Racing Shocks, Allstar Performance, Micro-Armor Racing, and M.P.H. Promotions.

Brandon Thirlby T-Shirts and Hoodies are available for purchase either by heading out to Hartford and/or I-96 this weekend and for more information about Brandon Thirlby and the Thirlby Automotive  Racing and to find out about sponsorship opportunities for the remainder of the 2012 season, check out the Brandon Thirlby Facebook Fan Page at: www.facebook.com and search for “Fans of Brandon Thirlby” where you can find out more about getting LIVE updates from the team in case you can’t make it to the track.
