John Garvin Jr. Pilots Crate Late Model to Victory at PPMS

Sarver, PA (April 30, 2012) John Garvin Jr. and Copperhead Racing have been quite busy so far in 2012, entering 12 events already in the young 2012 racing season, and their schedule looks to get a bit more hectic as the team has added a crate late model to their stable in addition to the super late model for the rest of the season. The decision to compete in the crate division as well has already paid dividends as Garvin Jr., picked up his first win of 2012 at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA on Sunday, April 29 in his first crate start of the season.  John coupled that win with a solid second place finish in the super late model feature event after leading throughout the event.

Since the northern racing season started in late March, 'Copperhead' has had five top-ten finishes in six starts between three different facilities, Mercer (PA) Raceway Park, Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA, and Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway. Among those five top-ten finishes are also three top-five finishes and now a win.

'We were hoping that the time we spent down south in February would help us when the tracks closer to home opened,' Garvin said, 'so far, it has.  The extra laps down south against some of the best drivers in the business help get us a few steps ahead of the local competition and gets me more seat time, that's what I'm looking for, more seat time.'  John goes on to explain his reasoning for competing in the crate late model class as well, 'That's what the crate car is for, to get me more seat time and more laps.  The best drivers out there all race over 70 times a year; that number is something we're aiming at.  The more we race, the more we'll learn.  That's what we want to do, learn and get better.'

'We'll still be in the super late model 90 percent of the time,' Garvin claimed, 'but if there's no super shows anywhere and we have a chance to take the crate out, we will.  So far we're really happy with how both cars are running and I really need to thank my family and crew for all the help and support as well as Brian Daugherty from Integra Shocks, he came on board this year and has been a tremendous boost to our program.'

Garvin Jr. plans for the upcoming weekend include a stop at Lernerville Speedway for their regular 'Fab Four' weekly event on Friday, May 4 and another trip to Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 5 for the $5,000 to-win 'Penn National 51' sanctioned by the United Late Model Series (ULMS).
