Jimmy Mars Masters Farmer City for $20,000 Illini 100 Win; Cedar Lake Up Next

MENOMONIE, WI (April 5) - Jimmy Mars added to his ever-expanding resume over the March 30-31 weekend, as he picked up his first 'Illini 100' title at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois! A stellar field of 53 competitors converged on the 1/4-mile fairgrounds venue and all eyes were fixated on the hefty $20,000 top prize. On Friday night during preliminary action, Jimmy laid down the ninth quickest lap during World of Outlaws Late Model Series qualifying and later won his loaded heat race.

Prior to the start of the 100-lapper on Saturday evening, Jimmy drew the outside front row starting spot. The Menomonie, Wisconsin standout grabbed the point at the drop of the green flag and never looked back en route to leading flag-to-flag. Jimmy pocketed the $20,000 payday by beating Darrell Lanigan, Shannon Babb, Rick Eckert, and Brian Birkhofer to the checkers. Full results from the 'Illini 100' can be viewed online at www.worldofoutlaws.com.

"It is a true honor to finally get that first career win at Farmer City and to do it in the Illini 100 is just awesome," exclaimed Mars following the win. "I have never really been all that good at Farmer City, but the car was excellent all weekend long. When the track was slick early in the feature, my car was just flawless. When it took rubber, that is when I couldn't turn as well as I needed to. But, I was able to keep (Darrell) Lanigan and the rest of those guys behind me and get the victory. I have to thank everyone at Mars Racing, Deppe Enterprises, and all of our great sponsors and supporters."

Next up for the Mars Racing team will be a trip to the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin on April 6-7. The 54th Season Opener at CLS will take place this upcoming weekend and a pair of complete shows will be held for the NASCAR Late Models on Friday and Saturday. Each program will pay $1,000 to the winner. Additional information on the double-dip at Cedar Lake this weekend can be accessed by clicking on www.cedarlakespeedway.com.
