Title: Chub Frank Secures Fifth-Place Finish In World of Outlaws Standings Post by LMR on 11/10/11 at 1:35am FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 9, 2011 ________________________________________ Chub Frank Secures Fifth-Place Finish In World of Outlaws Late Model Series Points Standings BEAR LAKE, PA – Chub Frank secured a fifth-place finish in the 2011 World of Outlaws Late Model Series points standings with a top-10 run in last Saturday night’s season-ending 50-lap Lowes Foods World Finals A-Main at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C. Surviving a late-race tangle that sent him spinning in the middle of traffic, Frank crossed the finish line seventh to clinch his first top-five placing on the WoO LMS since 2008. He picked up a $30,000 check for his fifth-place points finish during the national tour’s awards banquet on Sunday night at the Great Wolf Lodge just down the road from the speedway. “We’re happy to get fifth in the points,” said Frank, who has finished as high as second in the WoO LMS standings. “We almost got to fourth (falling just four points shy of Tim McCreadie) – if we could’ve run better on Friday night (he finished one lap down in 19th in the first 50-lapper of the World Finals weekend) we could’ve gotten by McCreadie. We’ll take fifth, though.” Frank, 49, of Bear Lake, Pa., fell short of reaching Victory Lane on the WoO LMS for the second consecutive season, but his steady performance record in 2011 (five top-fives and 17 top-10s) allowed him to crack the top-five in the points race. The driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ did, however, experience a scare in Saturday night’s World Finals finale. While racing inside the top 10 on lap 37 he tangled with Shane Clanton, sending his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* spinning in turn four. Frank managed to twirl his machine around without coming to a stop, allowing him to keep his position for the restart and continue on to a seventh-place finish. “Clanton’s gonna say one thing and I’m gonna say another (about the tangle),” said Frank, who qualified for both World Finals A-Mains with third-place heat-race finishes. “I thought I gave him enough room, but if I was at fault after looking at the tape, I’ll apologize.” Frank, who started 13th in Saturday’s feature, ended his ’11 WoO LMS campaign with an upbeat attitude. His performance improved after putting Roush-Yates engines under the hood of his cars late in the season, giving him high hopes for 2012. “Let’s go. Let’s start now,” Frank said when asked about the ’12 season. “I’m ready to go right now. Everything we changed with our program was positive, so I’m happy. We ended the season stronger than we started it, so we’re going in the right direction.” Frank plans to follow the WoO LMS as a regular once again in 2012 – and with the help of his Roush-Yates power, he’s hoping to time-trial more consistently and thus contend for more top-five finishes and wins. “I don’t want to pass 179 cars again – that part I didn’t like about this year,” said Frank, who won the $500 DirtonDirt.com Hard Charger for advancing the most positions in WoO LMS A-Mains during the 2011 season. “If you pass 179 cars in features, that means you’re not qualifying well and you’re starting too far back. You just can’t make up that ground. “You have to put yourself in position to win, and to do that we have to improve our qualifying. I think we will.” Frank stayed down south after Sunday’s WoO LMS banquet in order to enter this weekend’s National 100 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. His assault on the $25,000-to-win event will close out his 2011 racing schedule. For more information on Chub Frank, visit his Web site at www.chubfrank.com.
