Title: Booper Bare closes out Steel Block Bandit Season with 10th Place Post by LMR on 11/08/11 at 6:27pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 8, 2011 ________________________________________ Sprouse Cromer Motorsports finish out Steel Block Bandit Season with 10th Place Finish in the Western Maryland Nationals…Hagerstown & Gaffney next to close out 2011 The Steel Block Bandits concluded their 2011 racing season this past weekend at the Western Maryland Nationals in Cumberland Maryland. Behind the wheel of the Merritt Sprouse/Chris Cromer owned Mastersbilt, Booper Bare entered the weekend trailing defending champion Walker Arthur by only 8 points. Unfortunately the weekend got off to a bad start on Friday when after setting a great lap in Time Trials the team was informed that the #83 was light at the scales and that their qualifying run was disqualified. The surprising turn of events really had the team struggling for answers as the car with the same set-up has been more than heavy enough at every other venue the team has competed in this season. What made matters worse is after adding 40 pounds to the car for the heat race Booper crossed the scales 100 pounds overweight. After discussing loading up and heading home instead of racing for a series that obviously didn’t want a level playing field the team decided to stay the weekend for their fans that had made the long drive. Trailing Walker by 20 points, Booper went out on Saturday and won the B-Main giving him the 19th starting spot for 50 lap $5,000 to win feature. On a track that was tough to pass Booper moved forward 9 positions to finish 10th. The team would like to congratulate Walker and the Cecil B Arthur team on their 2011 championship. “It was just a shame for all involved” said Booper. “In 30+ years I have never been thrown out of a race and I certainly would never push the weight limit, especially with the championship on the line. The Steel Block Bandits resolution to the problem was that the scales were the same for everyone. I agreed with them on that point but with a few other drivers coming up to me later that evening stating that their cars scaled a few pounds light also but they were waved on through, it just makes me wonder why the series would not have a representative at the scales” added Bare. “They obviously know there is a problem with the scales, especially when the promoter decides to talk privately with drivers including myself 30 min prior to the feature on Saturday telling us not to worry that there will be 100 pound allowance after the feature due to the inaccuracy of the scales. I want to thank Walker, and all of the other drivers that came up to us and expressed their support throughout the whole weekend. It is just a shame for Merritt & Chris, we wanted to race for the title, not have it decided this way. My crew, fans and sponsors certainly deserved a fair shot at going for the title. It was unfortunate that the series didn’t agree.” “It was a great year in #83. Merritt & Chris provided me with good equipment and they made racing fun this year. I just wish we could have finished on a better note. We will be back again in 2012 running some of the better paying steel block races with the Jimmy’s Tree Service, JC Auto Body #83” announced Booper. “I would like to congratulate Walker and Cecil on their championship. We have been friends for a long time and if we couldn’t win it, I am certainly happy they did” added Bare. Booper Bare & the team will now finish out their year in the Jim Stasiowski owned Loco-Motives, LLC Racing #37. They will enter the RoushYates/Mastersbilt by Huey in this coming weekend’s rescheduled Octoberfest at Hagerstown Speedway. The team will then conclude the 2011 season on November 20th in Gaffney, SC at Cherokee Speedway for the 21st running of the Blue Gray 100. Both races pay $10,000 to the winner.
