Scott Creel to Drive for Henderson Motorsports in 2012

by Ben Shelton
Laurel, Mississippi (10/26/11) –Henderson Motorsports is proud to announce that Scott Creel from Franklinton, Louisiana will be piloting a #31 Henderson Motorsports Mastersbilt for the 2011 season as a team car to Leon Henderson.

In regards to the hiring of Creel, Henderson comments, "Scott is a talented, young driver, who is coming up through the ranks in our sport, and with David (Breazeale) opting to take a break from racing in 2012, he was a natural fit for our operations. We welcome him on board, and are excited about the possibilities."

The 20-year-old, Creel, will be making his debut in a Henderson Motorsports entry during the 6th Annual Wild West Shootout at USA Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) in January 2012.

Scott, who was the 2010 Southern All Stars Rookie of the Year, is extremely excited about the opportunity as well, noting, "Leon and everybody with Henderson Motorsports are giving me a golden opportunity, and I want to give them the results that they deserve. They are some great people, and I couldn't be more excited about the 2012 season!"

The team has also announced that at the very minimum that David Breazeale will run a limited schedule in 2012 beginning with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event at Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi) on March 30th. Billy Moyer Jr. has also been tabbed to enter 8-10 events for the team during the course of the 2012 season.

Last weekend Henderson Motorsports went into battle with three guns blazing as David Breazeale, Leon Henderson, and Scott Slay all took part in the 17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi). David Breazeale started the weekend by qualifying fastest in his group in time trials on Friday night to earn the pole starting spot for his heat race. He would go on to claim the heat race win after a spirited battle with Dennis Erb Jr. and Dane Dacus. Via the heat win he locked into the fifth starting spot for the 100 lap, $15,000-to-win finale on Saturday night. In the feature he would battle in the top ten early in the event before the handle on his #54 Mastersbilt began to go away as he slipped back to a 16th place finish.

Leon Henderson was also in action in his #10 Victory Circle M1 Chassis, and via time trials he started ninth in his heat race. He would fail to reach a transfer spot to the feature via his heat race, which relegated him to a b-main on Saturday night. In the b-main he would pass a few cars but did not make it to a transfer spot, bringing his weekend to an early end.

Scott Slay also took part in the event in a #54s Victory Circle M1 Chassis. After starting sixth in his heat race he would advance to a fourth place finish, which left him one spot short of a transfer to the feature, but earned him a front row starting spot for a b-main, which he won to earn the 19th starting spot for the feature. Unfortunately in the feature an ill-handling car would see him retire to a 22nd place finish.

The upcoming weekend, October 27th-29th, will see the team in action in the 8th Annual Southern Belle Cotton Pickin' 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi). Once again the team will take three drivers into battle as Leon Henderson, David Breazeale, and veteran, Jason Smith will all be in action. The $15,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start event gets underway on Thursday night with an Open Practice Session, while time trials and heat race action will be held on Friday night. Saturday will see b-mains and the 100 lap finale.
