Mike Marlar Records Top Ten in DTWC; Set for 17th Annual Fall Classic

by Ben Shelton
Winfield, Tennessee (10/18/11) – Despite challenges by Mother Nature and less than favorable track conditions Mike Marlar was able to race his #5 Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to a top ten finish in the 31st Annual U.S. Steel Dirt Track World Championship over the weekend.

Mike took the #5b Bryson Motorsports/Rocket Super Late Model into battle over the weekend in the 31st Annual U.S. Steel Dirt Track World Championship at Atomic Speedway (formerly KC Raceway) as a $50,000 prize was posted for the winner of the mega-event. A stout field of 90 Super Late Models entered the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned event, but it was Mother Nature, who would make her presence known on Friday by forcing the program to be consolidated into a single program on Saturday due to persistent rains showers.

On Saturday the action began at 4pm under sunny and windy conditions, which resulted in a race track that quickly took rubber. Mike would qualify fastest in his group to earn the pole for the first heat race with Don O'Neal to his outside. Mike would record a second place finish in the heat, which locked him into the seventh starting spot for the 100 lap finale. Once again for the feature the competitors would face a race track that lended itself to a minimal amount of passing. He would maintain his position for the duration of the feature before crossing the finish line in the eighth spot.

This weekend, October 20th-22nd, Mike will make the trip to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi) for the 17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic, which posts a $15,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start purse for the event at the 1/3 mile oval. Mike led several laps in the event in 2010 before registering a fourth place finish at the checkered flag. This year's event gets underway on Thursday night with an Open Practice Session before seeing time trials and heat races contested on Friday night. Saturday night will conclude with b-mains and the 100 lap finale. For more information, please visit www.WhynotMotorsportsPark.com .
