Ehrhart Victorious at SSP on Saturday Night in Late Model 30 Lap Summer Fun Championship

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (July 2) – On Saturday night, July 2, Dover’s Justin Ehrhart returned to victory lane for the third time this season by winning the 30-lap Late Model feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park in the special 6th Annual Summer Fun Championships. In Street Stock racing action, Dan Zechman of Hanover claimed his sixth feature event of the season in the special 25 lapper. York’s Patrick McClane and Lancaster’s Donnie Broderick each picked up a win in the Xtreme Stock Car Twin 15’s. York Haven’s Daryl Sipe won his fourth Road Warrior feature of the season. Aaron Brommer of Auburn won the PENNMAR Vintage Car 12-lap feature event.

The 30-lap Late Model feature event started with Justin Ehrhart quickly grabbing the lead from the pole position. Carl Billet quickly fell into the runner-up spot and trailed Ehrhart lap after lap waiting for Ehrhart to make a mistake. That opportunity never came as Ehrhart claimed his third win of the season. Billet settled for second, followed by Randy Christine Jr., John Moser Jr. and Jason Rochelle. Heat wins went to Coleby Frye and Billet.

Dan Zechman led from start to finish to claim win number six of the season in the special 25 lap feature event. Doug Bennett finished second and Scott Thunberg in third. Randy Zechman and Jeff Haag finished fourth and fifth respectively. Don Zechman and Jim Palm Jr. were heat race victors.

In the special “twin 15 lap” features for the Xtreme Stock Cars, Patrick McClane took the lead from Johnny Palm with five laps to go in the first feature to claim the victory. Tim Hahn finished in the runner-up spot, followed by Palm, Kody Sites and Cameron Benyou. In the second XSC feature, Donnie Broderick returned to victory lane followed by Benyou, and Davey Nester. Palm and Adam Smith rounded out the top five. Rich Lomman, J.R. Rodriguez and Palm won their respective heat races.

Daryl Sipe led every lap of the Road Warrior 15-lapper to claim his fourth victory of the year. 2010 SSP track champion, Christopher Holland finished second. Curt McDade, Jim Jacobs and Thomas Thompson finished third through fifth respectively. Jeff Svendsen and Brian Lefebvre won their respective heat races.

Aaron Brommer won his third PENNMAR Vintage Car feature in as many races at SSP by taking the lead from Glenn Pobletts on lap 4. Fred Krickbaum finished in the runner-up spot, followed by Clark Bartholomew, Pernell Snyder and Larry Felty rounding out the top five.

The Susquehanna Speedway Park will take its annual Summer break with no racing from July 3 through July 14.

Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midgets, karts, Adult Speedcars and lawnmower racing action.

Racing action then returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, July 16 featuring the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors and Legends Cars. The start time is 7:00 p.m. for racing action on Saturday night.

Saturday, July 16 will also be the “Hometown Heroes” night featuring the towns of Hanover, Littlestown, McSherrystown, New Oxford and Orrtanna. Before the races begin, the drivers from those hometowns will have the opportunity to display their cars and meet the fans at the front gate of the speedway. The drivers will also be interviewed during the night’s racing program. Also, all fans entering the speedway from that driver’s hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.

The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
