Scott James Nabs First UMP Summer Nationals Win at Cedar Lake; Takes Point Lead into Spoon River Tonight

BRIGHT, Ind. - Despite a trio of rain-outs in the first five nights of the UMP Summer Nationals tour, Scott James and the Riggs Motorsports team have started off the month-long journey on a strong note. Scott picked up his first series victory and his first win with the Riggs Motorsports team on Friday, June 17 at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. The Bright, Indiana native ran second in his heat race to earn the fifth starting spot for the 30-lap main event. Scott then took advantage of a late race restart to blast by leader Dan Schlieper on the high side and beat Schlieper, Shannon Babb, Brian Birkhofer, and Jimmy Mars to the checkers to score the $5,000 triumph!

Earlier last week, Scott was in action in the series opener on Thursday night at the Kankakee County Speedway in Kankakee, Illinois. After running third in his loaded heat race, the driver known as the "Silver Shark" rolled off from the outside of the fifth row in the $5,000 to win main event. Scott was able to maneuver past four competitors en route to a sixth place performance behind only winner Mike Spatola, Chad Simpson, Brian Shirley, Ryan Unzicker, and Matt Miller. Mother Nature picked up two wins last week, as the shows at the Brownstown (IN) Speedway on June 15 and the Cedar Lake (WI) Speedway on June 18 were rained-out. A race-by-race recap is available online at www.ScottJamesMotorsports.com.

"That win at Cedar Lake was huge for us," exclaimed James following the 'Masters' victory. "We have been so close all year to getting into victory lane and I can't thank Scott Riggs for all of his help and support. He has provided me with top notch equipment and hopefully we can keep running up front with it. To have the point lead after two races is great, but honestly, there is so much racing left in the next month that it really doesn't matter right now. We just have to stay focused, keep working hard, and take it one race at a time."

By virtue of his win and sixth place finish so far on the tour, Scott finds himself leading the current UMP Summer Nationals point standings after only two races. Following last night's rain-out at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois, Scott and his #81 team hope to beat both the competition and Mother Nature when action resumes tonight, June 21 at the Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Illinois. You can watch Scott sling dirt at the following venues this week:

June 21 | Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Illinois) | $5,000 to win
June 22 | Highland Speedway (Highland, Illinois) | $5,000 to win
June 23 | Fayette County Speedway (Brownstown, Illinois) | $5,000 to win
June 24 | Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Illinois) | $10,000 to win
June 25 | Fairbury American Legion Speedway (Fairbury, Illinois) | $10,000 to win
