The 24 year-old, Thomas, currently holds the unique position of residing atop the overall standings for the tour as well as residing atop the series' rookie of the year points. This Saturday, June 18th he will take both point's leads into battle in a $5,000 to win/$300 to start event at Smoky Mountain Speedway in the Pilot Food Mart Big Daddy 500 at the famed oval. Thomas was last in action almost two weeks ago as he traveled to Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) on Thursday, June 2nd for a $10,000 to win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event as 32 cars signed in for battle. Via time trials Thomas would start fourth in his heat race and would run fifth for the majority of the heat before using the high line to rocket to a second place finish in the closing laps. Via his heat race performance, he would start 8th in the feature, and was excited about his chances for a win or top five finish. However, early in the event he would slip back a few spots with an ill-handling car, and made the decision to retire from the event to save his equipment.
