Rebounding From Rough Night, Richards Ends World of Outlaws Late Model Series Doubleheader in Georgia on Strong Note

SHINNSTON, W. Va. - May 10, 2011 - Josh Richards ended a doubleheader weekend of World of Outlaws Late Model Series action in Georgia on a strong note, finishing third in Sunday night's 40-lap A-Main at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park.

The 23-year-old's podium run in the first-ever WoO LMS event at the three-eighths-mile Needmore oval helped him forget a disappointing 19th place finish in Saturday evening's Pine Tree 50 at Swainsboro Raceway. Richards ceded the national tour's points lead after a folded front bumper forced him to the pits for repairs that dropped him nine laps behind.

After timing second-fastest and winning a heat race at Needmore, Richards picked the fifth starting spot for the feature. He was able to advance two spots on a hard, sun-baked track surface that left passing at a premium, but he was pleased with his performance nonetheless.

"We unloaded with a great car and we were right there in the feature," Richards said of the Kentucky Fuel Corporation/Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket No. 1. "But the pill draw was huge tonight. Track position was so critical because the track rubbered, and we didn't get the starting spot we needed.

"At least we came back with a good run after what happened (at Swainsboro)," he added. "We had a great race car (at Swainsboro) too, but we got our bumper knocked off early and it kind of took us out of contention."

Richards, who qualified third-fastest and also won a heat at Swainsboro, started fifth in Saturday's 50-lap A-Main but was forced to the rear of the field on lap three when he pitted to change a left-front flat tire during a caution period. He was making his way back to the front when he bent his car's front bumper on the rough-and-tumble track surface; he pitted during a lap-14 caution and returned nine laps down after making repairs.

"Even after we had to pit because of the flat, I still felt I could've gotten back through the field with the car we had," Richards said of Swainsboro's event. "But the track was real rough and we ended up folding the front bumper under (after climbing up to 13th place)."

"It was a great run for Clint and his guys," said Richards. "They've done an awesome job the last couple years with their Rocket cars and I'm real glad to see Clint win one again.

"And it's great to see Chub get two seconds in a row. He's been real good lately and he's getting close to a win - although I hope we can get one first!"

Richards ended the weekend ranked second in the WoO LMS points standings, 20 points behind Rick Eckert, who won Saturday night's A-Main at Swainsboro.

Next up on Richards's agenda are WoO LMS events this Thursday night (May 12) at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar and Saturday night (May 14) at Winchester (Va.) Speedway.
