Title: Chub Frank Closes ‘Great Northern Tour’ With Solid Performance Post by LMR on 06/30/10 at 1:38pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Chub Frank Racing 982 Lottsville Niobe Road Bear Lake, PA 16402 E-mail: info@chubfrank.com Chub Frank Closes ‘Great Northern Tour’ With Solid Performance In Firecracker 100 At Lernerville Speedway BEAR LAKE, PA – June 30, 2010 – Chub Frank ended the World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Great Northern Tour’ on a positive note – though still not good enough, of course, to satisfy the hard-nosed racer. The 48-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., capped his nearly two-week stretch of competition with a sixth-place finish in the Firecracker 100 on June 26 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. It was his second top-10 finish in the six A-Mains (two additional races were rained out) that comprised the WoO LMS swing through upstate New York, Canada and western Pennsylvania. “The car was good,” Frank said of his effort in the $30,000-to-win Firecracker 100, which he started from the 17th position. “But I’m not too excited about it because I think we just did something different on tires and that showed up in our performance. I think we went harder on tires than everybody else, so we got better while other guys fell off.” After struggling to finishes of 12th (Thursday) and 24th (Friday) in the pair of 30-lap preliminary features that kicked off this year’s expanded three-day Firecracker 100 weekend at the four-tenths-mile oval, Frank got his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota Rocket car moving forward in Saturday’s extra-distance finale. He felt he could have climbed even higher than sixth if he had gotten by Josh Richards and Steve Francis a bit faster and caught a few caution flags. “Steve and Josh held me up a little bit – just racing, but it took me too long to pass them,” said Frank, who got a taste of victory during the weekend when he combined with fan Ross Miner of Mill Run, Pa., to win Saturday afternoon’s Firecracker 100 Horseshoes Tournament for the second consecutive year. “We needed more yellows too. My car was good after yellows, so I think I could’ve gotten into the top five if I had a few more. “I don’t know if we would’ve had anything for (winner Shane) Clanton and (runner-up Darrell) Lanigan, but (third-place Jimmy) Mars never left my view once I got to sixth.” Frank set up camp at Lernerville after competing in three Great Northern Tour events. His best run was a sixth (after starting 13th) in the 50-lap A-Main on June 15 at Can-Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, N.Y.; his subsequent outings included a 22nd-place finish on June 17 at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ont. (he put on the wrong tire compound and was eliminated on lap 39 of the 50-lapper by a scrape that bent his car’s front suspension) and a 13th on June 20 at Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway (he survived a late-race spin in turn four following an encounter with Clanton that bent his car’s nosepiece). Scheduled events on June 19 at Quebec’s Autodrome Drummond and June 22 at Brewerton (N.Y.) Speedway rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 23 and 24, respectively. Frank, who sits ninth in the WoO LMS points standings, heads back on the road with the tour this weekend for a doubleheader in Tennessee on July 2 at Wartburg Speedway and July 3 at Tazewell Speedway.
