Shorty Gardner Memorial Set for Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday June 5

Bardstown, KY-May 30, 2010- Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will again present exciting racing action at the ½ mile, high-banked Nelson County clay oval on Saturday June 5 as the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman division runs its biggest event of the season with the $500 to win 7th Annual Shorty Gardner Memorial event.

On Saturday June 5, the 7th Annual Shorty Gardner Memorial will take place for the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman as the division will be spotlighted in a 20 lap, $500 to win main event. Also in action on the June 5 race program will be the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models, racing 25 laps for $1,000 to win, UMP Modifieds, racing 20 laps for $500 to win, and UMP Street Stocks in action as well in a 12 lap, $100 to win main event. For the June 5 racing event, the Super Late Model and UMP Sportsman divisions will time trial, while the UMP Modifieds and UMP Street Stocks will pill draw for heat race starting assignment.

Activities for the June 5 racing program will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m., with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. A mandatory drivers meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. Practice will begin at 6:30 p.m., with time trials at 7:00 p.m., followed green flag race action at or before 8:00 p.m. All times are EDT. Ticket prices on June 5 will be $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and children under age 6 free in the general admission area. A pit pass will cost $25.

Mr. Gardner was a long-time supporter of the Sportsman division from its beginnings at Bluegrass Speedway in 1995 and was a car owner and even brought and ran his own wrecker at the track on many race nights. After Mr. Gardner’s passing, this memorial event in his memory was added to the schedule in 2004 and Bo Wilson of Bloomfield, KY would be the inaugural winner of the race. Danny Blackwell of Taylorsville, KY would win the event and track championship in the same season in 2005, while Kevin Wilson of Versailles, KY would pilot Blackwell’s old mount to the event win in 2006. Jimmy Bryan of New Haven, KY would record his biggest career win by putting Ford power in victory lane in 2007. Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY would continue a trend by winning the event and track title in the same season in 2008, with Pat Hagan of New Haven, KY winning the race and track title as well in 2009.

Bluegrass Speedway last raced on May 29 and feature event winners included Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models, Benji Lee of Loretto, KY in UMP Modifieds, Barry Chesser of Bloomfield, KY in WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman, and Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY in UMP Street Stocks.

Bluegrass Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven Road at the intersection of Kentucky Highway 31-E and exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins (Bluegrass) Parkway.
