More Of The Same For Chub Frank: Slow Starts Too Much To Overcome During World of Outlaws East Coast Swing

BEAR LAKE, PA – May 20, 2010 – Last weekend's World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader on the East Coast provided more of the same for Chub Frank.

The veteran standout from Bear Lake, Pa., once again moved forward in both of last weekend's A-Mains, but the problem was that he had too much to overcome. He finished ninth on May 13 at Delaware International Speedway and 11th on May 15 at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway – after starting 17th in both 50-lappers.

"The biggest thing is still qualifying for us," said Frank, who won a B-Main each night to transfer to the features. "We're not starting up front, and that's half the battle. We had to come from behind both nights again."

Frank, 48, managed just the 25th-fastest time in qualifying for the Thursday-night 'First State 50' at Delaware International and then missed the cut in his heat with his Rocket machine. He steadily inched forward during the rough-and-tumble A-Main but settled for a ninth-place run that was his sixth top-10 finish of 2010.

It appeared that Frank might be ready for a turnaround outing at Hagerstown two evenings later after timing a respectable 13th-fastest in qualifying, but his fortunes went downhill during heat action. Contact with Austin Hubbard as he was in sight of a top-two redraw finishing position left him with a flat left-rear tire and bent wheel; he pitted and returned to finish fifth, but that sent him to the B-Main for the second straight night.

"That definitely messed us up because now we're hurrying up trying to fix the car instead of working on it to make it better," said Frank. "But I don't think we were on the right tires for the (A-Main) anyway."

With the WoO LMS off this weekend, Frank, who sits ninth in the tour's points standings after 14 events, plans to enter the weekly dirt Late Model action on Fri., May 21, at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. A winner in his last appearance at Lernerville one month ago, he hopes to use the regular show to continue improving his program.
