THREE EAST BAY RACES TO SET THE NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS POINT RACE BATTLES

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The next three NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights will set the point battles for the $20,000 National Championship and the $5,000 Rookie of the Year title. One race team in particular, is in the hunt for both awards.

Rounds two, three and four of the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season will be a pair of 50-lap $2,500-to-win shows set for Thursday and Friday nights, with a 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event as the finale on Saturday night.

The Century Carriers, Inc. race team of Cottondale, AL has Justin McRee of Cuba, AL as a National Championship contender, and Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL as a Rookie of the Year candidate. McRee finished third in the season opener on January 23 at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, while Henderson finished 21st, and is third in the RoY point standings.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS finished fifth at Columbus, and heads into the next three rounds of the 2010 season 60 points ahead of his season opening point total from last year. Cooley has already spent a week at East Bay with his mentor Billy Moyer, who won a super late model race there two weeks ago.

In 2009 at the age of 18, Cooley became the youngest National Champion in the history of dirt late model racing driving a Victory Circle race car built by National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Moyer.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA finished tenth at Columbus, and the Ironman of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will be looking to compete in his unprecedented 87th straight series race. Turner finished third in the 2009 National point standings, and is the only driver to compete in every series event held since its inception in 2005.

Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS finished seventh in the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National points chase, and comes into the East Bay trio of races 13th in the point standings. Minga will take to the “Clay By The Bay” with a new Rocket Chassis, a brand of race car that has a long winning tradition at East Bay Raceway Park.

Another “Rocketeer” Pete Cochran of Villa Rica, GA leads the Rookie of the Year point standings, but has seven other tyros right on his heels. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is second in the RoY standings, just eight points behind Cochran. Henderson is in the third spot followed by Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, MS, Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, Frank Wilson of Harold, FL, Paul Walters of Valley, AL, and Mark Tice of Avon, MS.

Other NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS entrants expected include Chris McElhenney of Lake, MS, Troy Dixon of Temple, GA, Jay Burchfield of Columbus, MS, Larry Harrod of Plains, GA, and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, AL.

The local East Bay Raceway Park contingent will be led by defending track champion Jeff Matthews of Dover, FL, and the Nosbisch clan. Ken Nosbisch fielded a car for Doug Horton of Bruceton Mills, WV who won the first two nights of NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Speedweeks action last February at East Bay.

Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, FL is a multi-time EBRP track champion and a former series winner at the 1/3-mile clay oval. Jack Nosbisch Jr. of Riverview, FL has an EBRP NeSmith Chevrolet fast time on his resume. Other local favorites expected include Shan Smith of Dade City, FL, Phillip Cobb of Riverview, FL and Steve Mathis of Plant City, FL.
