Toste Leads West Coast Late Model Shootout Into Labor Day Weekend
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The West Coast Late Model Shootout is preparing for two nights of racing over Labor Day Weekend. Bakersfield Speedway will host the series on August 31st and Santa Maria Speedway on September 1st for the 20th annual Danny and Sandie Simkins Memorial. It will be their final weekend in California before they end their season with two weekends of racing in Arizona. Both events will pay $2,000 to win and $400 to start.
The West Coast Late Model Shootout was in action at Bakersfield Speedway on August 10th with Bakersfield’s own “Dominator” Brad Pounds defending his home track. Bobby Hogge IV goes into Santa Maria Speedway as the most recent winner, claiming the final night of The Nationals over Memorial Day Weekend.
Pismo Beach’s Tony Toste has risen to the top of the points standings with El Segundo’s Nick Bartels trailing by six points. Bartels had a strong run at Bakersfield Speedway on August 10th finishing second. Steve Drake of San Luis Obispo sits one point behind Bartels after a tenth place finish. Jason Papich and two-time defending series champion Clay Daly complete the top five.
IMCA Sport Mods, American Stocks and Mini Dwarfs are also on the card for August 31st at Bakersfield Speedway. Gates open at 4 PM, Hot Laps at 5 PM and Racing at 6 PM. Adults are $15 and kids 6-12 are $5. For more information visit

The 20th annual Simkins Memorial at Santa Maria Speedway will have special starting times. Gates will open at 4 PM, qualifying at 4:30 PM and racing at 5:30 PM. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Mini Dwarfs and Sport Mods will also be in action. Adults are $18, Students/Military/Seniors are $16, Kids 6 to 12 are $6 and kids 5 and under are free. For more information visit
