Kolkmann Sweeps Ventura

OXNARD, CA (July 31) - Ventura Raceway's 2013 Ventura County Fair Motorsports events got under way on Wednesday July 31, with a full program of motorcycle racing with a full program of exciting flat track, road course and motocross racing.  With over 100 riders signed into the pits the fans in attendance were in for some outstanding flat track racing. Fifteen classes ranging from kids 5 and up on bikes, to vintage and modern flat track and oval races for bikes and quads, all the way to open professional racers going for a first place prize of $2,000.  Racing was once again fast and furious from the first to last event.

Racing in the kids bike divisions saw Peyton Marks take the win in an 5 rider field in the kids 65 and under cc class.  In the kids 110cc and under class the win went to Mitchell Vansant.

In the adult classes for amateur riders wins went to Dustin Mackey who took the Pit Bike road course race win.  Matt Ott took the win in Pit Bike Oval over Dustin Mackey.  In 500 cc Vintage racing the win went to Jim Lundgren over Fred Berger.  750 cc vintage racing saw Dylan Morin win over Larry Earhart.  The Hooligan Derby was won by Preston Petty on an electric motorcycle over Bill Kee.  250 cc Motorcross Flat Track went to Brendan Throckmorten over Cody Gibbs. The 450cc Motocross Flat Track win went to Hunter Drumma over Brendan Throckmorten.  250 Motocross TT bikes ran the infield jump track with the win going to Aaron Lundsford over Hunter George. 450 TT/Motocross racing saw the win go to Aaron Lundsford over Jon Parks.  Amateur Modern racing went to John Tinsley over Trent Morley.
 
In Quad racing the Quad Open went to Tim Batista over Mike Lewis.  In the Sportsman Division the win went to Joey Diaz over Justyn Smith.

Thirteen professional riders took the green flag in their 20 lap main event going for the winner’s check of $2,000.   Nick Armstrong got the jump off the line while Ventura native Kayl Kolkmann and Mike Rush clashed for second going into turn 1.  Kolkmann eventually wrestled the spot away from Rush and set his sights on Armstrong.  Kolkmann got by Armstrong for the lead on lap 7 and never looked back, leading the final 13 circuits to grab the win.  Rush took home second after a spirited fight with Armstrong, who finished in third.  Kolkmann and Rush each took an eight lap heat win and Kolkmann won the six lap Dash for Cash.

The Motorcycles and Quads return on August 31st for the A.J. Herrera Memorial in honor of the long time Ventura rider who passed away recently.  For more information call Ventura Raceway at (805) 985-5433 X115
