Taylor Scores His Fourth At Ventura

OXNARD, CA (July 13) - Another night of exciting short track racing took place at Ventura Raceway on Saturday July 13 as the racers returned to action after a two week break to hold our Speedway Bike Race and a Fairgrounds activity last week . Once again fans and teams were treated to fast and furious racing on Ventura's red clay oval track.

Greg Taylor returned to VRA action and went on to take the 30 lap feature over hard charging Guy Woodward, Rick Hendrix, Troy Rutherford and Rob Kershaw who did everything they could to try to catch him. Taylor started fourth and quickly moved to the front of the 15-car field. Kershaw led lap one to six but Taylor passed him on lap seven and was out in front to stay. Three heat races were run with wins being taken by Luke Boles in heat one, Greg Taylor in heat two and Rick Hendrix in heart three. The night's ended with Guy Woodward retaking the point lead by 20 points over Tom Hendricks.

IMCA Modified racing continued to be the Joshua Vogt show. Once again he started toward the back in 8th position but he raced to the front taking the lead on lap 16 to take his seventh win in 2013. When the race was complete the results saw Vogt on top followed by Brad Prows, Donald Houghton, Dylan Coffee and Aaron Rodarte. Two heat races were run with the wins going to Josh Vogt in heat one and James Stowe in heat two.

The new VRA Hobby Stock Class continued to grow with nine cars in attendance. Point leader Scott Dinger took another win in their 20-lap feature. He battled with Tom Stephens Jr. and Gary Curtis for the first 12 laps before getting to the lead and going on to take his fourth win of the season. Stephens Jr, Curtis, Randal Dougan and Ernie Malone followed Dinger across the line. One heat race was run with the win going to Scott Dinger. After seven races in 2013 Scott Dinger holds a 150-point lead over Gary Curtis.

VRA Mod Lite action saw Cody Majors take his first Mod Lite win in the 20 lap main event over Jeffrey Fry, Mike Kornder, Ricky Lewis Kim Lewis. Dave Dotson took their one heat race. Ricky Lewis leads Dave Dotson by 155 points in the point race after five races in 2013.

VRA Focus Midgets saw Wally Pankratz take the 20 lap feature win over point leader Brennan Rogers, Austin Blair, Courtney Crone and Robert Sumpter. Pankratz also took their one heat race.

The final group racing Saturday night was the VRA Sport Compacts. Due to a possible rule infraction by the leaders of the race the results are pending a decision that may or may not affect the finish order.

Ventura Raceway will be back in action next Saturday night July 20 with the ARP Battle at the Beach for VRA/USAC Midgets. Also racing that night will be VRA Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks, Go Karts and our Kids Classes.
