Taylor Returns To Victory Lane In Ventura

OXNARD, CA (June 22) - Saturday night June 22 was a night of streaks. In the eight classes run two streaks ended and five streaks continued. Only in Pro Dwarf did a winner not fall into one of these categories.

In VRA Sprint Cars Troy Rutherford's two race winning streak ended when he became entangled with the 66 of Chris Meredith early in the 30 lap feature. The race was all Greg Taylor who got back into his winning ways with a win from the outside front row, leading all but two of the 30 laps in the main. He took the lead from runner up Tom Hendricks on lap three and went on to win his third feature of the year. Following these two drivers to the line were Guy Woodward, Rick Hendrix and another strong run by Austin Deblauw. Two heat race were run with wins going to Luke Boles in heat one and Greg Taylor in heat two.

In IMCA Racing a new winner ended a season long streak by Josh Vogt. Vogt who had won each race he had entered at Ventura this season ran hard from the back of the pack trying to catch first time IMCA winner Dave Phipps to no avail. Phipps, a many time champion all time great from Saugus from Speedway days, finally got back to victory lane after many years. He led from the first lap to the end to get his victory. Following Phipps and Vogt were new point leader Robbie Witwer, Brad Prows and past Ventura IMCA champion Donald Houghton. Two heat races were run with wins going to Mark Davis and Phipps.

In VRA Dwarf Cars, Mike Neal continued his winning streak, in Senior Dwarf Cars, with number three in a row over Brent Stevens, Keith Vondersaar, Bill Van Praag and George Calvo. The win keeps Neal in the season Senior point's race. Keith Vondersaar took their heat race win. In Pro Dwarf Cars Brent Stevens got another win over Kevin Calvo, Eric Moore, David Cantu and Brian Saxton. With the win, Stevens reclaimed the point lead by 65 over Calvo and and 85 over previous leader, Tim Conley. They ran three heats with wins going to Eric Moore, Tim Conley and George Calvo.

VRA Mod Lites returned to action with six cars in attendance. Point leader Ricky Lewis made it three wins in a row continuing his winning streak leading Dave Dotson, Jeffrey Fry, Kris Kornder and Mike Gilmore to the finish line. Jeffery Fry took the win in their one heat race.

VRA Go Karts were in action with their 20 lap feature going to Matt Jones making it two in a row for him over a strong field. Following him across the line were Kenny Byers Jr. Dylan Ito, Justin Raper and Brennan Rogers. Heat race wins went to Jones in heat one and Raper in heat two. In Heat one Logan Lovingfoss took a nasty spill in turn four flipping over. He was taken to the hospital for care of his injuries.

Our final groups racing Saturday were our Flat Track Quads racing in two classes, Sportsman and Open. In Sportsman racing Robert Peterson took another win to continue his winning streak. He led Richard Ramirez, Justyn Smith, George Penrod and Troy Slayton to the finish line in their 15 lap feature. He also took the win in their one heat race. In Open Quad Competition, Kyle Eurto made it two in a row taking the15 lap feature over David Knight, Carson Puryear and Mike Lewis. Eurto took their one heat race win as well
