Taylor Tries For Two Saturday Night

OXNARD, CA (May 8) -- Ventura Raceway is back in action this Saturday night May 11, featuring five classes of the best short track racing to be found anywhere. VRA 360 Sprints headline the show this week along with VRA Dwarf Cars, Mod Lites, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. All the drivers in these classes will be going all out to try to improve their season point positions as they race on Ventura's fast red clay oval. Last week's event was the first race featuring the new red clay racing surface and racing was outstanding. This week other classes get their first crack at the new and improved racing surface.

VRA Sprints are back after last week's race that saw past series champion Greg Taylor take his first win in 2013 and the first sprint car win on Ventura's new red clay track. He started 12th and moved to the front to take the win over point leader Guy Woodward. All the top VRA drivers will be here to try to keep Taylor from making it two in a row. Tom Hendricks, Rick Hendrix, John Nock, rising star Luke Boles and many others are scheduled to be here Saturday night to put on great racing for the fans in attendance racing in their 10 lap heats and a 30 lap main event.

VRA Dwarf Cars will be racing in two classes, Seniors and Pros. Leading the field into the racing will be point leaders Mike Lewis in Seniors and Brent Stevens in Pros. These downsized sedans, coupes and trucks put on exciting racing action each time they appear at Ventura Raceway.

Our newest class returns to action this week as well. The full sized V8 powered VRA Hobby Stocks will be in action with point leader Scott Dinger being challenged by Gary Curtis, last race winner Danny Quinn, Tom Stephens Jr., David Heurung and others. So far in 2013 the fans have been treated to exciting racing in this new and growing class.

VRA Sport Compacts will be Saturday night, with point leader and 2012 series champion Zach Peterson leading them into action. He will be going for his third win in 2013 against a field of other racers in their four-cylinder, rear wheel drive cars. Mira Cook, Mike Stanford, James Adler, Andrew Greiman and many others will be trying to gain in the point race and keep Peterson from taking another win.

The last group racing this weekend is our VRA Mod Lites. These dwarf car sized modifieds have been a growing class. Point leader and last race winner Dave Dotson leads them into action. Others scheduled to be racing include Ricky Lewis, Kris Kornder and Jeffrey Fry.

Pit gates open at 12 noon and front gates open at 3:00PM. Preliminary racing action gets under way at 3:30 PM and full on racing gets going at 5:30PM. Admission for this event is $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors with kids 12 and under free with a paid adult admission.
