1st annual Budweiser Nationals Kick-It for Relay for Life

Jeff Gordon’s Kick-It for Cancer has started a new revolution of charity events at dirt tracks across the country and will make its way to Bakersfield Speedway during the Budweiser Nationals.  On Saturday, October 13th drivers from all divisions will meet at Bakersfield Speedway to compete in a kick ball tournament to raise money for Relay for Life.  Relay for Life is an event that helps communities across the world celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember the loved ones we have lost and fight against the disease.

Our goal for 2012 is to have one team for West Coast Shootout Late Models, West Coast Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Modifieds/Sport Mods. Each team will have a team captain. Justin Ruebel has stepped up to organize the West Coast Street Stock team and I will head the West Coast Late Model team.

How it will work:

•      Each team will be comprised of 10-16 drivers from that division.

•      Each team member is asked to find at least a $50 sponsor with all proceeds going to Relay for Life.

•      Single elimination games

•      10 players on the field at a time, everyone kicks

If you are interested in representing your division as a player or captain please contact me or your designated team captain.

We are looking for items to use in a raffle: t-shirts, gift certificates, door panels, etc. If you can donate any items please get a hold of me. We will also need help the day of selling raffle tickets as well as umpires.

Unfortunately Michael Johnson (only Modified team member) was involved in an incident at the track yesterday and is on the sideline with a broken foot. With all of the drivers he has tried to recruit and myself as well not wanting to play, the team has been changed to allow Modified drivers that would like to play as well as crew members, officials and fans.
