Transmission Swap
12/21/11 at 8:40pm

I have a friend that called me tonight. He needs a manual transmission for a motor that has an automatic on it now. I don't know much about this, but here's what he sent me after our conversation.

I have a 2jz motor  going into a 86 corolla . I have the 6 speed auto tranny that goes with motor I need it swaped for a manual .

Any help would be appreciated.

The w58 out of a celica or celica supra will bolt up, but won't handle the power if it is the turbo engine.  The Getrag 6 speed manual trans is pricey used, around $2000.  That is the oem manual trans.  If it's the 2jz gte that is your only option.

May be better to sell the current 2jz and buy a front clip that already has the manual trans.  The manual clips are more expensive, but cheaper in the long run.  Or go to readytofix.com and buy a wrecked supra, then part out what he doesn't use.

SupraStore.com has a package to get 500rwhp out of this engine for about $1800.
