if you use the edelbrock you have to use the specific cam thats dyno for it,  its cheaper and seems to be a nice package for the sportmod, its a budget minded package!  id go for the weiand intake and then you can find a good cam for it.  But beware it is a claim class, so i wouldnt get to wild on it.  There is a few guys buying the reman long blocks from auto zone and installing the circle track pan kit on it as well as the edelbrock intake, cam kit and valve springs.  Doubt it would be a top runner but its claimable so it wouldnt be a total loss.

This is the same intake as the stock cars use and well the guys winning are using the edelbrock.  When I say that Im talking about national championship and super nationals.  I personally have won over 15 times with it.  The weiands are too shallow to really get any good use of the open chamber.  I ran a cast iron brezinski when they were legal but switch to the 2701 when IMCA made them ilegal.  I turned 7000 rpm with the stock car but the valve spring rule for sport mods is not going to allow that kind of rpm unless you get really good 1.25 dia. valve springs.

how big of a motor did you have when running this intake? and with sport mods claimer motors we dont have a valve spring ruling or cam ruling so we might just hit that 7000 or atleast 6500 to 6800 rpm

i have a 360, and well the diameter yes , it has to be stock, but that dont stop any of us from 7000 rpm i know a few cars runnig stock heads and using that diameter and there up there close to the 7k, i have a 600 lift 1.250 spring in mine with a 2700 to 6800 rpm cam.

just went back and read u wasnt saying it wouldnt do it, u said u would need good valve springs, my valve springs are from jr motorsports with all together in the prc 108 deluxe cam kit

well thanks for the info good to know cause when i looked in the mag and only seen 5500 rpm i was like not happening, hey you ran a 2 barrel 4412?

this might be stupid question but this here from speedway and says about the intake, i bolded the part im talking about, so this is just stock recommendations? and im only looking for about 6500 nothing more really

Edelbrock Performer EPS S/B Chevy Intake Manifolds $139.99 speedway

Designed for 1986 and earlier 262-400 cubic-inch Chevys, the Performer EPS dual-plane manifold is optimized to deliver superior performance over other low-rise dual plane manifolds. This small-block Chevy manifold has a runner design that's "tuned" for peak torque around 3500 rpm on a 350-inch engine and it produces power from off-idle to 5500 rpm.

Dyno tests showed gains of 5 hp and 9 ft/lbs of torque over the standard Performer manifold on a 350 Chevy. From 3000 to 4500 rpm, the increases averaged 5+ ft/lbs. of torque for more performance where you need it most.

WEIAND INTAKE MANIFOLD, IMCA APPROVED $174.99 speedway

You can now run the 7547-1 Weiand X-CELerator in the IMCA Stock Car and Sport Mod classes. This aluminum intake has the common Holley 4150 4 bbl bolt pattern and fits the 1957-86 S/B Chevy 262-400 iron heads and 1987-Later GM factory aluminum heads.

With an effective rpm range of 2000 to 6500 rpm, this intake works best with a higher compression ratio, 280° or more of cam duration and headers with 1-5/8” primary tubes. The Weiand X-CELerator Series is the ultimate performance manifold for single 4V applications where increased torque and power is required in the mid and high rpm ranges.

IMCA Approved - Intake has IMCA Racing logo behind carb mounting pad.
