TIME MACHINE: 2000 SIDEBOARD LATE MODELS - BAKERSFIELD

Here's some cool footage of the sideboard main at Bakersfield. Scott Pounds and Bobby Whutwere (Sp) have a pretty killer race.  This footage doesn't do them justice, looking at them in person, they looked like they were defying gravity on entry.

Well, the proponents of radios claimed they were only for "safety" reasons. I knew that was bull. I stood right next to one of the top teams at the time, and heard the crewchief say into his headset..."he's coming low, move down". Safety...yea, right. They were expensive to buy, so only the well funded teams had them. Sandy finally relented, and outlawed them about the same time the Hava-Tampa cars did away with them.

My main beef at the time was...ok..if you can't afford radios..then how about those that don't have them should be allowed rear view mirrors. Sandy almost agreed.

Yep, that reason is all to common. Its a shame people do that. Good point on the rear view mirrors.

That is Robbie Witwer.  The same guy that won the Sport Mod race in Bako Saturday night.
Boy those were the good ole days.  I loved watching the sideboard races in all divisions.
