SIMKINS MEMORIAL - SUNDAY SEP. 4 - SS BONUS DRIVE

The Simkins Memorial is a yearly race to pay tribute to Dan & Sandie Simkins. Sandie had a passion for racing in general and she showed it through her dedication and efforts in the East/West Street Stock series. One of her biggest goals was to raise money for the SS class so the racers could receive decent pay-outs. A couple times a year she would direct her energy toward a "bonus" program for the drivers. The money, or bonuses came from "anybody" that wanted to pitch in and donate "any" amount of money or "any" kind of gift certificate to what ever they want.

Here are a few of the types of things that people have donated to in the past.

Qualifying Position
Finishing Position
Fast Time
Slow Time
Leader of the Most Laps
Leader of Lap ??
1st Car to get a Flat Tire
Hard Charger
Longest Tow
Highest Finishing (North, South, East or West) Car
Hard Luck Award
Heat Race Winners
1st Car to Cause a Yellow
1st Car to get Lapped

In Sandie's memory, Sara and I are organizing a "bonus" program this year. We will collect the donations and see that it is delivered to "whatever" the donor requests. Sara and I will see to it that the recipient of any bonus will know where it came from, unless the donor wishes to remain anonymous. So use your imagination or pick one from the list, and lets get this thing going.

Race starts at 5:00
Pits are open all day and free camping.
Not sure about laps -- most likely 30, but will post as soon as I find out.
Happens on Sunday.

Will look forward to seeing the #88 at SMS.

Id love to see the triple 33s again. I remember coming up with my dad years ago for the 33s. Was a blast and a very cool format. Any cars unable to start the next main, they pulled alternates for the next main.

That was the Don Roberts Memorial that was also on Labor Day. When we were in Streets we ran that race a few years. A lot of fun. In 1998 they had probably 75 cars for it. I have the old program at home, I'll have to see how many cars were there.
