Great In-Car Supermodified Footage-Flat Awesome
05/10/10 at 5:48pm

There is some ballistic fast and totally awesome in-car Supermodified footage on YouTube that I stumbled upon.

It is from Stafford Motor Speedway during an I.S.M.A. race on board with "Liquid" Lou Cicconi. Just puch up "Supermodified Ride With Lou Cicconi." You get the push off, a few pace laps and then some frighteningly fast laps as Lou works the field. This is some really killer stuff. That big-inch methanol burning off-set small block just sings to high heaven on that big track. Crank it up, the sound is great.

Push 'em flip 'em's, on pavement no less? Are you insane? You trying to start a riot here? That is good footage. And, not that it matters but ISMA requires big block chebbys, probably the dumbest rule that ever worked.

There is a good in-car from A.J. at Madera last year on there too. Those are small blocks. And opening night at I'dale is listed under Irwindale 1,2, and 3 in low-def, but pretty good with some world famous wannabes.

Those modifieds can be alot of fun sometimes.

Hey Mark, check out "madera in car" for AJ's deal. Notice how much better the 2bbl cars are in the corners. Enjoy.

Oopps, I forgot that the ISMA boys have big-blocks. There are only 2 types of racecars that should be push started, a Supermod and Nostalgia or 60s' style Dragsters and Fuel Altereds, LOL. What is cool about "Liquid" Lou is that at Staffords big ole track, those Supers can strech their legs out in the straights. Those engines are just singin' down the straights. I would like to see those things at Oswego, Toledo, and Winchester.

Up until this year Toledo has had a ISMA vs. AVSS night. More of a what class is faster at Toledo, supers or sprints. The times have always been close but usually (I want to say 80%) one of the sprint car guys would set the fastest lap.
Oswego should be on everyones bucket list, there is nothing like hearing big blocks echoing off the boiler plate walls.

Very true and well stated. You can just feel the history when you drive up the hill at Oswego. And Toledo?...geez. The conversation went something like this:

Me; What gear do you run at Toledo.
Shirey: about a 4:00
Me; Huh? A 4:00? Thats a PIR mile gear. The schedule says that place a 1/2.
Shirey: Yep. you just hold the throttle down and lightly touch the brake pedal every now and then.
Me; Uh, I think this will be a great time to watch and learn.

Toledo is scary awesome. And I'm told Salem and Winchester are even more so. Guess any 12 second half mile would be. I know it's not dirt. but Toledo is a must for any race fan.

Toledo is a great joint to watch a show. I remember my uncle racing there in the late 70's and he talked about how long he would be turning the car, he couldn't believe how long the turns were. The improvements that ARCA have done to the place hasn't detracted to the racing the way the "improvements" have effected Eldora.

Winchester is a whole 'nuther animal. I think every fan should experience climbing up the banking at either end of the track. I have only seen ASA @ Salem and that was almost 20 years ago so my memory of that joint is a little foggy.

Heres a video of the HOSS series running at Winchester.

Tony Swanson has done a great job carving out a niche for HOSS. He sure got the attention of both USAC and AVSS in a very short time with his "little Hwy. 20 series". Thanks for posting.
