Whitwell Masters Mother’s Day

Kevin Montgomery Tucson, Arizona (May 8th, 2010) – They say that the third time is a charm!  Indeed it was for RC Whitwell as he found victory lane for the first time in 2010 by capturing the 25-Lap feature in round three of Barnett Harley Davidson UMP West Modifieds and wrapped up a memorable Mother’s Day celebration Saturday night at USA Raceway.

Whitwell squeezed past Nick O’Neil to lead the final two laps as he crossed the stripe just ahead of the seemingly dominate Big Un’s Towing Machine.  Whitwell used the low line to make the final pass and rode onto the finish to take home the $1000 top prize in a very hard fought Modified battle.

New Mexico’s, Fito Gallardo overcame a night filled with adversity as he navigated the G17 through traffic driving from 14th to fill the final podium spot.  Gallardo was followed to the line by a hard charging Stormy Scott with Corey Hosler rounding out the top five.

Marty Hussak returned to victory lane as he took top honors in the 20-Lap Unifirst Super Stock feature.  Hussak avoided the early race mishaps that plagued a portion of the field with many falling prey to damage, the destruction showed no mercy leaving USA Promoter, Benji Lyons, in need of some new skin for his passenger side door.

Hussak led way with eventual point leader Daniel Stricker taking 2nd.  Lonnie Foss, Dana Boatwright and Dwayne Hogan rounded out the top five.

Kalvin Catlin took home his first Factory Stock feature of the year as he dominated the 20-Lap feature from his pole starting position.  Josh Partain picked up where brother Bo left off as he crossed the line in 2nd with Robert Burchett filling up the podium with a 3rd place finish.

Jerry Jones took no prisoners as he unveiled his first victory in Rear Wheel Drive Hornet action with brother Duane backing him up.  The Jones brothers filled the top two spots with points leader Jim Hock rounding out the top three.

Josh Allred also added his name to first time 2010 winners as he piloted the silver number 76 Front Wheel Drive Hornet to victory lane.  Allred would hit a few obstacles on his way to a well earned 1st place trophy.  Stephen Lee and John Callans will fill the remaining top three positions respectively.

Landon Cling would prevail in the high speed Modlite chase with Tony Evans and Anthony Platt in pursuit.  The chase was called off after Cling took the checkered flags for the 20-Lap Modlite feature.

The real winners are the fans that helped Team Lump Busters and USA Raceway raise $3000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  A check on the behalf of USA raceway, Team Lump Busters and all the fans of USA Raceway will be sent to Susan G. Komen to help continue the fight of a devastating disease.
