6) I am tired of everyone that can drive a tractor thinking they can prep a dirt track. THEY HAVE NO CLUE !!!

Thats all. Thanks.

RUN A CAT PAVER AROUND IT A COUPLE DOZEN TIME AND PUT 8 INCHES OF 1/2 ASPHALT ON IT!!!! [/quote]

If I paved it, even I would find something more exciting to do on Saturday nights.

Then, put the water truck on it  before each event. It would be consistent and they wouldn't complain about mud on their cars!

I would rather take a smooth dry track over a rough tacky track.
Thanks Tim & tom had a blast tonight.

Some people start yelling and criticizing the track prep  with no appreciation of the work  and sacrafice that goes into the whole operation.....  to me this shows their ignorance  or maybe their arrogance...

your at the races with friends and a cold beer... what can be wrong with that?

Chris Hodapp....

That's a great post, Chris.

Some of us fans would rather be watching wheel-packing take a little longer one week, or sitting through some dust the next week.
I know that for the last 2 Saturdays, I'd rather been sittin' at the track with friends drinking a few cold-ones watching some racing. But I have had to put in some 12hr (nights) at the job....

People need to remember Arizona lost 2 tracks over the last couple of years. "What if" 2 tracks in California closed? Say, SMS and Bako.....Then most people on this site would have to find something else to complain about. Appreciate what you have, and don't take it for granted. (Like I did!) The WORST night at the races, is still better than your best day at work....

The Sprint car guys I talked to said it was worst the bako on a bad night. They used up a tire in the main event and that has not happened at sms in a long time.

Hey racecar35, at 2:01am, you were on another thread asking "How was the track?" http://www.latemodelracer.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1273385402

3 min. later you're on this thread claiming you've talked to sprint car guys about how the track was....Not sure if it is BS or your just wanting to stir the pot. Either way, it seems you have a hard-on for SMS.

I am a stands fan, and I too appreciate the fact we do have a track at Santa Maria, to go and watch Saturday night racing.  Like has been said be it however the track turns out, you have several people that work their butts off trying to provide the best racing surface they can, and for that I am very thankful.  If there are some that think they can do a better job, come on down, I am sure T&T would love to take a break and spend the extra time with family and friends.  Heavy and wet or dry and slick, its all part of racing, and those that prep cars and those who drive them, my hat is always off to adapting and winning or finishing a race....JMOO..Don

Sparky,  I didnt know the wind was going to come up, it's kinda hard to see the weather report when your having to spend all your time trying to get the track ready after my day Job.  The water truck is empty when I use it to pack in the track.  A pickup truck has one set of tires across the back and a water truck has two. Four tires gets it done in half the time so I can get home in time to say good nite to  my three year old daughter.  I know doug didn't use it.  It would be nice if I had the time doug did.  Hay, maybe you could come and help me, don't you have an old duele truck.  LOL

Dont worry the track will get better, the new clay will get older and wont glaze over as bad, we are trying to change things up in order to find what will work best for now,  wait tell we get an overcast day into a foggy night do you think it will go dry then?

We had a hole week of high temp days last week and lots of wind.

We could really use a doner big ass 4 door car or 1/2 ton pickup with a set of Hoosiers, we used to use the old 60's ford heavy haulier with street stock tires on it and it worked great tell someone blew it up,lol...

A pickup works good cause we can put the small water tank in the back to add wheight,

So if anyone out there would like to donate a car or truck that we could use out there for wheel packing that would be great,

I donated the white chevy 3/4 ton track truck you see out there and i would use it but it has 8 lug rims and 16" wheels so it would be hard to come up with a set of race tires for it?

Tom asked me to Thank everyone for the kind words of support over the last week.  It's been a very rough week for him and he is harder on himself then any of you could ever be if the track is not perfect or the way he wanted.
We know most of you all understand that track prep takes a lot of time and work and luck.  With the new clay on the track it will take a little time for Tom to figure it all out and if only the rain would stop as the water level under the track keeps changing.  One week he has it figured out and then more rain....ugh!
Thank you for your cotinued support.  It's not an easy task and very time consuming.  Seeing his daughter only to say good nite on weekdays and Sunday's while he tries to recover is very hard on our family and takes it's toll.  But as an ex-racing family we know the impact if there was nobody to prep the track and the impact it has on all of the fans and racing teams and their families.  So Tom continues to do his best and hopes will learn the new clay sooner rather then later.

Thank you,
Susan Breshears (Tom's wife)

After seeing that car in the picture I agree with Robby, please don't forget that we pay good money to put  on the show for the fans. If we wanted a mud bogg we would enter one. The fans pay 1/10th of what we spend to watch the race, just give us something to race on.

I'm trying,  I dont do this for the pay if I did it would't be enough. The old track last year was down to the sand base so we had to something.  We all are try to make the best track for the rasers and the fans.  Tom
