I seriously could never understand everyone's problem with the inside back wall. I've seen guys see that and drive off. I mean is it really that bad? racier, how, to make the track a little bit wider at that point? the thing that always bothered me was that big giant tire outside of turn one....

outer back wall is what i think is the problem because it has an inward curve and makes the back straight have a funnel effect but the inner wall doesnt make it anymore forgiving. but at this point i dont care if they re open it just as it is it would save me alot in tow money since i live 5 minutes from the track!. also i was wondering if they would bring there hobby stock rules with them because i know our hobbie stocks do not conform to there rules.

Well hillbilly as 01m put it, the back stretch wall funnels down, so would be easier to remove the inner wall. It would widen the track and odgers never would of been on top of it, would of slid in the infield. The fans would be able to see all the cars and not just from the window up. Would be better for fans and drivers

I would also like to see Merced have close to the same rules as Chowchilla so that cars can make both tracks without to much travel.it has been a long time coming for a new promoter at merced and I'm glad to see it,hopefully the tracks will work together to make this happen.

Thi is the latest from Don Martin

The question has been asked if there is any word on Merced Speedway. Of course, last week we caught word through a Jack Menges story (not even sure it was printed in any newspaper) that John Soares Jr, had announced that he would be taking over Merced Speedway. It is quiet at the moment, but that doesn't mean anything. They are still dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's, so to speak. I would anticipate official announcements will be made as soon as Monday night or Tuesday if all goes well. This is something we'll just have to stay tuned on, and that's all I can really say at this moment.

Donnie has been very active  again and it's great to see him back posting. Would love to see him back in the booth somewhere as IMHO he, along with Kenny Takeuchi are the two best EVER!!

Merced Speedway Announcement Today?
That is the big question. It could be made today within the next few hours, or within a few days from now.

On the agenda for the Merced Fair Board Meeting, which is happening as this is being posted, is the contract for the Merced Speedway. It was reported about two weeks ago by Antioch Speedway Publicity Director Jack Menges that John Soares Jr. announced he was going to be taking over Merced Speedway and reopening it.

We followed up on this story by reporting what our conversations had revealed. A second name, not yet revealed here, has been mentioned in conversations we've had with others in the know for quite sometime as being involved. We've respected that person's privacy by not revealing the name until they are ready, but people will not be disappointed if this person is involved.

Our friends over at CRO revealed another interesting detail that a schedule was being worked on and corroborated our reports that the track could be reopening some time around the Merced County Fair.

Though an agreement has apparently been made, it is reportedly set to become official at the Fair Board Meeting. We did put in a call to the fair earlier today but were redirected to an answering machine. This is understandable as the meeting was set to begin within a few hours.

Keep an eye on the various news site forums, such as no advertising and latemodelracer.com for something to break at any time. If/when we hear anything, we will post the news here and may put out another special audio show on the subject.

Of most importance to me is that Merced Speedway reopen again and have a shot to rebuild a once proud and storied racing tradition. The track deserves a chance to show what it can do, and I have confidence that it will back stronger than ever if given the chance.

I again want to offer thanks to the previous management for over 20 years of keeping the gates open and racing alive. There were some good times there that I hope are not forgotten as things move ahead. I was proud to be a part of it for a few years working with Johnny Sass.

Anyway, stay tuned. If we hear anything, we'll post it here.

Don also has a new radio show up along with some other area updates. Here's hoping this happens.......

Awesome news!!  And the fact that there is no mention of C.G. is wonderful.  Maybe they can bring back the Ted Stofle classic.
