PERRIS/VICTORVILLE NORTH VS SOUTH CHALLENGE BEGINS THIS SATURDAY!

(MARCH 30, 2010, PERRIS, CA)   This Saturday night, April 3rd, Perris Auto Speedway and Victorville Auto Raceway will kick off their “North vs South Street Stock Challenge” at Perris Auto Speedway.  Joining the Street Stocks will be the PASSCAR Modifieds, Sport Mods and the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks.  In addition, the Easter Bunny will be on hand for the kids and there will be an Easter Egg Hunt.  The PAS will also be continuing it annual $10,000.00 fund raiser for the American Cancer Society’s Power of Purple.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first heat race will be at 5:30 PM.

The North vs South Street Stock Challenge will consist of four races – two at each track.  The high point driver at the end of the series will receive $1,000.00 and the winning team (there will be team points as well) will receive a perpetual trophy that will stay in the winning track’s office for the year.

“We hope this stimulates a lot of interest for the drivers and the fans,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said.  “We have gotten together with Mike Gibson (Victorville promoter) and standardized our rules so the stock cars from each class can race at both tracks with no modifications.  In years gone by there were differences in the rules.  Hopefully this will increase the car counts and the size of the crowds.”

In addition to standardizing the rules, Kazarian and Gibson also worked together on scheduling.  There are no conflicts on the schedules (including Sprint Cars).  That should be especially pleasing to the fans.

The favorite in Saturday’s first North/South Challenge race has to be Curtis Dietzsch of Moreno Valley.  Dietzsch won the Street Stock championship at Victorville in 2009 and was the Street Stock champion at The PAS in 2007 and 2008.  He won the PAS season opening Street Stock main event on March 6th.

At the season opener in March, Lomita’s Mike Kirby, shaking down a car for 14 year-old nephew Cody Laney, won the main event in the Modifieds while long ago Corona Figure Eight champion Johnny Lathrop of Riverside did the same in the Sport Mods.  In the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks, Riverside’s Steven “Bam Bam” Fangmeyer emerged victorious in the first main event of 2010.
