ONE MAN HAPPY PERRIS PASSCAR SEASON OPENER MOVED TO THIS SATURDAY!

(MARCH 8, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Last Friday, when Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian announced that due to rain he was postponing the PASSCAR season opener to this Saturday, March 13th, only one man was happy. And, the guy who was ecstatic when he heard the news was half a world away! Chris “Crash” Dickey is serving in the US Navy and for the past six months has been deployed in the Arabian Gulf. Dickey will be returning to San Diego this week and on Saturday he will be at The PAS racing his California Lightning Sprint Car. The PASSCAR Street Stocks, Modifieds, Sport Mods, Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks and the NMRA Three-Quarter Midgets will also be in action on Saturday. Spectator gate will open at 5:00 PM and the first heat race will be at 5:30.

If last Saturday’s season opener had come off as planned, Dickey would still have been at sea and would have missed the race. However, he will be back in Southern California this Wednesday, March 10th. He will immediately start working on his car to have it ready to race in three days. “I have quite a task going through the car and ensuring it is ready in only a few days, but Jamie (Dickey’s girlfriend Jamie Getek who also serves in the Navy) and I are up for the challenge,” he said via E-mail from the ship last Friday. “I recently bought a 2007 Henchcraft (#7) with a Rosson ZX-12R from Derek Hyde. The car was raced very little and last raced by David Cardey at the Nationals in 08.”

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dickey, 30, started racing go-carts while stationed in Florida in 2000. He then raced 600cc-1200cc mini sprints while stationed in the Hoosier state as a recruiter in 2003-2006. “My schedule of being underway with the ship is very hectic and sometimes very short notice,” he said. “I am an E-6, Fire Controlman First Class stationed in San Diego on the guided missile destroyer, USS Benfold DDG-65. I have been in the Navy for 12 ½ years. I am looking forward to trying to make at least 10-12 races this year before I move back to Indiana for another tour of recruiting duty.“ Dickey scored a main event victory last July at The PAS before his deployment.

Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of October’s Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds.
