Full fields of West Coast 360 Sprint Cars and CDCRA Dwarf Cars were on hand Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway for the running of the 24th Annual Bud Stanfield Memorial presented by Southwest Contractors.

Peter Murphy, of Clovis, started on pole for the 30-lap Sprint Car "A" feature event and never looked back. Murphy led wire-to-wire to take the win over Davey Pombo, of Kerman, and cousin Albert Pombo of Easton. Tipton's Danny Faria was fourth, followed by Matt Streeter of Galt. Steve DeMott, of Santa Maria, captured the 8-lap "B" main and 8-lap heat races were won by Murphy, Albert Pombo, and Joey Layman of Paso Robles. Fast time of 13.745 was set by Albert Pombo.

The Dwarf Car Nationals drew enough entries to warrant five 8-lap heat races and two 10-lap "B" main events before the field was established for the 25-lap "A" main. Spanky Grenert, of Travis AFB, topped the 26-car field in an event that saw non-stop action throughout the field. When the smoke cleared Kevin Drake, of Aguanta, was second and Pat Weger, of Grass Valley, third. Shawn Jones, of Phoenix, AZ, and Eric Lopez, of Placentia, were fourth and fifth. Mike Lewis, of Sunland, and Angel Figueroa, of El Segundo, were first in the "B" mains. Heat race winners were: Grenert, Drake, Jones, Apple Valley's Kyle Cline, and Ryan Diatte of Salinas.

Next Saturday night will be the final event of the season, featuring Papich Construction IMCA Modifieds in a non-points run, the 1st Annual Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stock Nationals, and Powder Puff races for the MMI Factory Stocks.  Admission will be: $14.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors and military and their spouses, and $5.00 for children six to twelve. Kids five and under are free. Gates will open at the 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00 p.m. Parking and camping are always free. Santa Maria Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the US 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road.
