Press Release by Jim Pluhar
Santa Maria, CA - October 3, 2009

The MMI Hobby Stock/Factory Stock Rumble took center stage Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway as 32 cars and drivers vied for the $1,500.00 winner's share of the purse. Fourteen ladies took part in a Mini Stock Powder Puff event as well.

Jeremiah VanScoy, of Bakersfield, won one of two 32-lap "B" main events to transfer to the "A" feature. A full inversion, chosen randomly by a young fan with the spin of a wheel, meant VanScoy had to start at the rear of the 23-car field.

The battle at the front was fierce and it was four laps from the finish of the 33-lap event before VanScoy was able to pass Watsonville's Kyle Camperud for the win. Camperud came in second, followed by Bakersfield's Eric Cimental, Santa Maria's Kirk Morgan (the highest placing local Factory Stock), and Bakersfield's Rick Childress.

Michael Frazier, of Santa Maria, won the first "B" main event and set fast time of 18.533 seconds, an average speed of nearly 65 miles per hour. Frazier was also a contender for the victory before a spin forced him to start at the back-of-the-pack for a second time. Frazier was able to make it back to eighth place before he ran out of laps.

In the 20-lap Powder Puff feature event Kelsey Sullivan, of Atascadero, took the honors, out-racing Betty Willetts, of Temecula for the win. Third place was Jennifer Johnson, of San Luis Obispo, fourth Malissa Dye, of Atascadero, and fifth Hana Ensign of Nipomo. Sullivan and Johnson won the 8-lap heat races.

Next Saturday night the final local points race for the West Coast 360 Sprint Cars will headline the Bud Stanfield Memorial along with the first annual Dwarf Car Nationals. Ticket prices will be: $16.00 for adults , $14.00 for seniors and military and their spouses, and $5.00 for kids six to twelve. Children five and under are free. Spectator gates open at the 4:00 p.m. with qualifying at 5:00 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Parking and camping are always free. The Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the US 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road.
