Press Release by Jim Pluhar Santa Maria, CA 9-30-09
Some of the best Hobby Stock cars and drivers in California will take on the MMI Factory Stocks Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway in the 1st Annual Hobby Stock/Factory Stock Rumble.
Drivers who did well when the hobbies and factories last met, September 6, were defending Factory Stock champion Kirk Morgan, who won the feature event, and runner-up in 2009 points Michael Frazier, who finished second. Both drivers are from Santa Maria.
On the Hobby Stock side, Kyle Camperud, of Watsonville; Jeremiah VanScoy, of Bakersfield; and, Eric Cimental, of Bakersfield, are drivers to watch.
Dale Sylvester's Factory Stock title clinching run September 26 was not without drama. The Arroyo Grande point leader began the evening in a borrowed car, then traded cars with Gary Rayburn, Sr. for the main event. Because of the switch both drivers had to start at the back of the 23-car field. Second in points Frazier did all he could do by winning the 20-lap main event, his second in-a-row and third for the season. Sylvester, however, was not to be denied as he worked his way through the field to score a third place finish and secure his first championship.
Also on Saturday night's program is Mini Stock Powder Puff competition for the ladies and a Rugged Rhino Exhibition Race.
Spectator gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with qualifying at 5:00 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Admission prices will be: $14.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors & military and their spouses, $5.00 for youngsters 6 to 12, with children five and under free. Parking and camping is always free. SMS is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road.
