West Coast 360 Sprint Cars, Papich Construction IMCA Modifieds, NMRA TQ Midgets, and MMI Factory Stocks did battle on the 1/3-mile oval Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway.

Danny Faria, of Tipton, started outside the second row for the 30-lap Sprint Car feature event and trailed Peter Murphy, of Clovis, for 16 laps before taking over second place. Five laps later Faria took the lead from Kerman's Davey Pombo and never relinquished it. Murphy finished second and Pombo third. Atascadero's Greg Porte placed fourth and Hanford's Justyne Hamblin fifth. Pombo set fast time of 13.875 seconds and Faria, Murphy, and Hamblin took 8-lap heat race wins.

IMCA Modifieds showed up at the Speedway 32 strong for their final points race of the season. Danny Lauer, of Santa Maria, lost the August 29 feature event when his engine blew 2 laps from the end. This time Lauer went the distance beating out Bakersfield's Brad and Scott Pounds for the victory in the "A" main event. Santa Maria's Joey Claborn was fourth and 2009 champion Chad Weber, of Arroyo Grande, was fifth. Santa Maria's Josh Vogt and Arroyo Grande's Jason Papich won 10-lap "B" mains. Lauer, Brad Pounds, Bakersfield's Nick Sylvester, and Nipomo's Kenny Kirkpatrick captured 8-lap heat races.

NMRA TQ Midgets made their last appearance of the season at SMS with Anthony Lopiccolo, of Brea, coming out on top in the 25-lap feature event. West Evans, of Moorpark, was second and Scott Dobson, of Newbury Park, third. Bakersfield's Dakota Schweitzer and Sunland's Kenny Wiley were next in line. Schweitzer won the 12-lap heat race.

Dale Sylvester, of Arroyo Grande, suffered a severe hit to his Factory Stock championship bid when he got into the wall during the 20-lap feature event and finished second to last. Second place Michael Frazier, of Santa Maria, optimized his challenge for the title by winning the event. Tom Renner, of Nipomo, was second in the event, with third in points Mike Leland, of Atascadero, third. Kirk Morgan, of Santa Maria, and Lloyd Wren, of Bakersfield, filled out the top-five. Leland, Sylvester, and Theo Van De Sande, of Carpinteria, won 8-lap heat races.

Next Saturday night Super Late Model Stocks, East vs. West Super Streets, MMI Factory Stocks, and Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stocks all wrap up their points seasons at Santa Maria Speedway. Admission prices will be $16.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors and military and their spouses, and $5.00 for kids six to twelve. Children five and under are free. Spectator gates will open at the 4:00 p.m., with qualifying at 5:00 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Parking and camping are always free. The Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the US 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road.
