Mods Cancelled at Kings 4-18-09
04/16/09 at 12:40pm

After receiving several calls from drivers we have decided to cancel the IMCA Mods this weakend 4-18-09. In the best intreset of modified raceing Kings Speedway has decided to go OUTLAW Modified racing. 1200.00 to win 100 to start, same payout that is already being paid at other tracks. With the catch of $200 extra on top of the purse to the first IMCA legal car to finish in the top 5. See everyone May 23 for the first OutLaw Modified show at Kings Speedway. More info will be posted on Monday April 20.

Wow. Does it look like the IMCA mod deal has peaked? Is the modified racing scene starting to change and take on a new look?

Hardly any tracks here in oklahoma are IMCA ,,most are outlaw style mods. Everyone wants to go faster and loose the claim rule, They love it but fewer and fewer guys are stepping up into the class because of the cost, Most tracks here also have a B-mod(sportmod) class that runs aswell as the Full on run what you brung Mods..

Robby...go check it out once this year.

The track has improved a lot!  We had a good show there for the GJM.

Kings is not only my home track but where I started racing. I have mixed feelings about this but what it comes down too is I have spoke at great lengths with Jon and Frank and we thought the best way to bring cars back was to show what they have done over the winter. Tom has done an awesome job on the track. This track was one of the premier tracks in the state and they have worked very hard to try and bring that back. Running the weekly shows after trying to rebuild after DS left the track in its condition was not working, so they have decided to try this to bring cars back to show them how hard they have worked on the track. They are trying to do whats best for car count. That is why they are looking at local schedules and only running on off weekends. This weekend I am running the IMCA WWMT down in Mohave, 1200 to win each night. Just my opinion, I have a racecar that I can take anywhere in the US and Canada.

Sounds like the beginning of the death spiral of the Frank and Jon era at Kings. At least the Swindler has some spare time on his hands; maybe he can come in an pick up the pieces.

LOL!!    Ya, I do not see them letting him back in, unless he had a new grader to give them...LOL....Why do you see the beginning of the end for the Frank and Jon era???? They have had a terrible turn out of mods this year and the track has been soooo much better. Tulare, Marysville and Chow are showing that the non IMCA mod deal is not a bad thing......Tom S at Chow ran mods w/o the IMCA kiss of approval and did very well with them for most of the yeras he was open......

Well Robby - let the promoter know you are going to grace their track with your presence and let him advertise it and the "Robby Factor" alone should pack the stands.......................or not !!!

like I said earlier there is MORE to the story I'm sure. I do get to 12-15 tracks a year and around 50 races.

there a saying that comes to mind that goes " if you burn the bridge, it's hard to cross the water"

And for all you Robby  fans out there, the printer is waiting for a part to come in, but when it does the cost is $15 for " Robby Sawyer"s #1 fan" shirt.

My observation from other parts of the country....

When a track dumps IMCA and opens up the rules for its modified class, it is the beginning of the end.  Costs get way out of hand and it drives guys right out of racing.

Not saying that will happen for sure in CA, only stating what I have seen in the Midwest.

i think its great, i wish all the tracks would drop imca and run wsm rules. i dont think it will kill the mods in cali, the majority of them want this.

i agree with brad, the rules are the same except no claim, and tire grooving is alowed, it will not die cause of it being a non imca sanction... more money and you come home with what you went there with... its smart, tulare 40 cars chow 30 cars, those are large car counts...

That will never happen here, unless your running for Regional or National and racing every weekend and I don't see alot of that happen in CA.
The car counts and extra money will prove to be the ticket in this economy and going home with your motor and more money, seem like a winning combination. Mentioned to Bakersfield last yr to switch and tie in with Tulare open mod, but he choose to go with IMCA again.

1.  Does anyone know how this will affect King's points for the mods?

2.  Status Quo or will they start from zero on the first non-IMCA race?

3.  Are the rules, as far as the car itself, the same? (besides claims and tire grooving)
4.  Are any modifications required to go from IMCA to Outlaw?

theres not a competitive modified driver out there, IMCA or WSM, that does not have money in there motors...the money factor is regardless..
