Press Release Santa Maria, CA - September 20, 2008...Bandit Sprint Cars, D&S Automotive IMCA Modifieds, NMRA TQ Midgets, and Factory Stocks raced for points and purse Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway. *Peter Murphy, of Clovis, fulfilled his dream of four championships in one season when he finished third in the 30-lap main event behind Richard VanderWeerd, of Visalia, and Jason May, of Taft, and ahead of VanderWeerd's twin brother Jace. Second in points Albert Pombo, of Easton, was fifth. The top-five finish gave Murphy the Santa Maria Speedway Bandit Sprint Car crown to go along with his Kings Speedway, Bandit Series, and Bandit/VRA Grand Slam Challenge titles. The struggle for the race win was a good one with May holding off the advances of Richard VanderWeerd for 27 laps before being passed for the win. Murphy set fast time of 13.473 seconds and 8-lap heat races were captured by May, Justyne Hamblin, of Hanford, and Dan Faria, Jr. of Tipton. * Santa Maria's Danny Lauer needed only to qualify for the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature event to secure the 2008 championship. Santa Maria drivers filled the top-five finishing positions as Jake Jones ran down early leader Ron Wiley to pick up his second straight main event victory. Doug Thornton, Joey Claborn, and David Addamo were third through fifth. Jones and Chad Weber, of Arroyo Grande, won the 8-lap heat races. *Kenny Wiley, of Sunland, set fast time of 15.480 seconds in the NMRA TQ division and went on to win the 25-lap main event. West Evans, of Moorpark, Jimmy Dodson, of Bakersfield, Anthony Lopiccolo, of Brea, and Scott Niven, of Moorpark, followed Wiley to the checkers. Eight-lap heat races were won by Dodson and Lopiccolo. Point leader Chuck West, of Clovis, took a hit in the standings when his machine would not fire. *Factory Stock point leader Kirk Morgan, of Santa Maria, placed 12th in the 18-car field for their 20-lap feature event but still needs just fourteen points next Saturday night to bring home his second championship in-a-row. The victory went to Matt Marchiando, of Goleta, who fought off "Rookie of the Year" leader Randy Obert, of Atascadero, and Glen Sparks, of Santa Maria, for the win. Santa Maria drivers Michael Frazier and Pete Lethcoe completed the top-five. Lethcoe and Obert were first in the 8-lap heat races. *Next Saturday night Super Late Model Stocks, Fox 11 First at Ten East vs. West Super Streets, Factory Stocks, and Mini Stocks will be on track for the last time this season. The final Ira's Bike Shop of Arroyo Grande Bicycle Races for Kids will also be held. Gates for the show open at 3:00 p.m., with racing at 6:00 p.m. Admission will be $18.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors (65+), $5.00 for children six to twelve, with youngsters five and under admitted free.
