For Immediate Release: (St. Cloud, Minnesota ~ 12/10/06) With the new year just around the corner, management at St. Cloud, Minnesota based F.Y.E. Motorsports is excited to announce the dates for two of the most highly anticipated motorsports extravaganzas to take place in 2007. The 3rd annual Minnesota Modified Nationals will be on the slate for Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th with a rain date for Sunday, July 8th at 1pm if necessary and a tentative open practice session on Thursday, July 5th. As you can see, the Mod Nationals has changed from a Saturday/Sunday event to a Friday/Saturday event due to the fact that the 4th of July is on a Wednesday, so make plans now to be at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN for the third annual $7,000 to win event.
Along with the change to a Friday/Saturday event, the Mod Nationals will see a few additional changes to the format as well. This year’s biggest paying Modified event in the entire Midwest will see each Modified racer draw for his or her starting position on Friday night for a scheduled set of 8 heat races. The winner of each heat race will automatically redraw amongst themselves for the top 8 starting spots in Friday night’s qualifying feature just as we have done in previous years. The change from previous years comes with the other 8 qualifiers for Friday night’s qualifying main event. The previous two Mod Nationals saw the second place finishers in each heat race qualify for the feature, but this year one of the most exciting changes to the Mod Nationals will be the fact that the second place finishers in each heat race will not automatically get in the show, instead we will use passing points to qualify the second set of 8 drivers into the qualifying feature on Friday night. How this will work is the driver that is highest in passing points in each individual heat race will qualify for the main event and will redraw amongst themselves for starting spots 9-16. Just as we have done in the past, the finish from the qualifying feature will determine the top 8 rows for Saturday night’s main event.
Another change is that in past years, we have not offered the defending champion a provisional into the show and we still will not give the defending champ an automatic spot in the show, but we will allow him one extra opportunity to put himself into the feature event on Saturday night. This program will work this way: If the defending champion, who happens to be Rice, Minnesota driver Shane Sabraski, does not win his heat race and happens not to be one of the passing points leaders after heat race competition is over with, we will allow Mr. Sabraski to start 17th in Friday night’s 25-lap qualifying feature if he so chooses. Shane must then race his way up into the top three finishing positions of the qualifying feature and if he does that he will secure a guaranteed spot in Saturday night’s main event. If Shane chooses to tag the rear of the qualifying feature and gets up to third or better, he will be guaranteed to start 26th in the $7,000 to win / $700 to start main event on Saturday, but will still be allowed to compete in the qualifying events (c-features, b-features and last chance race) on Saturday to better his starting spot if he so chooses. This not only gives some recognition to the defending champion each year, but it will also give the fans something additional to watch in the qualifying feature on Friday night.
The only other change to the Modified portion of the show is that the $7,000 to win feature event on Saturday night will be 50 laps instead of the previous 40. Drivers and fans alike have asked for this change, so we have bumped up the laps to 50 for the 2007 event.
Midwest Modifieds will be on the card as a support class and will run a complete $500 to win show each night of the Mod Nationals just as they did a year ago. WISSOTA Street Stocks will be on the card with a full program on Friday night and new this year, the Super Stocks will be a part of the Mod Nationals with a full show on Saturday night.
The other mega-event put on by FYE Motorsports this year will once again be the final national points weekend of the year with the 5th annual Viking Fall Classic to take place on Friday and Saturday, October 5th and 6th 2007 with an open practice session set for Thursday night, October 4th and a rain date set for Sunday, October 7th.
This year’s Fall Classic will once again feature WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and Midwest Modifieds for a jam-packed weekend of auto racing to wind down the season with an anticipated 300+ racers in town for the weekend. The only major change to the Fall Classic lineup will be the fact that the show will begin on Saturday at 3pm instead of the previous years when it began at 5pm. The reason for this change is so that we are ensured to have time to re-work the race track prior to the features so we more excitement in all of the main events. The Late Model feature will also be moved from the final event of the night to the third feature overall on the card this year as well at the request of fans and drivers. More information will be released regarding specifics of the Fall Classic at a later date, but be sure to put both mega weekends on your calendar now so you are sure not to miss out on the action!
