FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY STARTS NEW MODIFIED CLASS IN 2007 SCHEDULE!
(November 27, 2006, PERRIS, CA) Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian recently announced a brand new Modified class that will begin racing at the track in 2007. The class will be sanctioned in house under the PASSCAR banner, which also sanctions the track’s Late Model, Super Stock, Street Stock and Cruiser classes.
The popular Riverside County clay oval last hosted Modifieds under the IMCA banner in 2005. The new series will have rules very similar to those used in the past at the track according to Kazarian. “The rules will pretty much be the same with the exception of two items. There will be no claims on engines and the tire rule will be a bit different.”
“A lot of guys asked us to start a class for Modifieds and we almost did in 2006,” Kazarian said. “I did not do it then, but I had more people (drivers and fans) ask me to bring them back, so we are going to do it in 2007. I think they are going to be a great addition to the show.”
Among the early entries for the class is Torrance, California star Mike Kirby. Kirby has driven and won at The PAS in Sprint Cars and Stock Cars and his racing days go back to J.C. Agajanian’s legendary Ascot Park in Gardena, California where he was a three-time NASCAR Figure Eight Champion.
The brand new class will make its debut at the track’s 2007 season opener on February 3rd. They will appear on the schedule 11 times and other dates may be added. The current schedule for the PASSCAR Modfieds is as follows.
February 3rd
March 10th
Mach 31st
April 21st
May 19th
June 2nd
June 30th
July 28th
September 8th
October 27th
November 10th
The rules for the new PASSCAR Modifieds are available at:

Just took a quick glance at those rules and noticed one thing right away. In the rear suspension section it states no coilovers. IMCA now allows coil overs in the rear suspension and most guys are on them. I would think that Perris would want to edit that section to allow them.

Steel coil-over eliminators, or steel or aluminum coil-over kits allowed - must conform to shock and spring rules
Came out of perris rules. I don't think that it will be a problem.

If they were to allow them to run the Hoosier e-mod or the dirt bozz, those things would really put on a show at the PAS, and highlight them as a seperate class from IMCA.

The rules look fine the way they are. Changing the tire rule will discourage guys from traveling to Perris on off nights. Santa Maria had its first full season and we had any where from 4 to 8 out of town cars ever night. I would love to try perris next year if the budget allows, but I wouldn't consider it if they were on different tires. Almost every track in california is on an IMCA tire and I wouldn't try to make perris different in starting a new class. I also have about 10 AR's I would like to burn off. I don't like everything about IMCA rules, but I like the fact I can run my car anywhere with out any problems and that they hardly ever change.

I just thought a good tire might spice up a normally long drawn out caution filled show

Facts are facts. The g 60 tire evens out the field. The dirt boss may be a better tire but just like the streets, especially without the claim(now a exchange) the high budget teams will drive out the competition.

Bad drivers will drive bad no mater what tire they are on. One the longest caution filled shows I have ever been in was the Street Stock Don Roberts grand Prix 2004 @ SMS. If they would have you used the 2 yellow rule there would not have been a car left on the track.
S.S.RD45 is right the dirt bozz would require the a lot of horse power at Perris. I am guessing with no claim and a track that big you are already going to have a good piece under the hood to be fast.

Don't know where you are getting your facts from, fact is I would like to see how in the H*** you can build a long block motor for $500, you can't even go to Kragen and buy a long block for that, it cost that much minimum for just the rotating assembly, not including the block, heads, intake, etc;. The guys that are running mods these days have motors either from junkyard-$15,000 or more in there motors now, and you don't see the Mod Class deminishing yet, in fact it is still growing. So at least you could go to a race track, finish in the top 4 and NOT have to worry about getting your $1,000-$15000 motor claimed, which puts that much more fun back into racing. Could make it grow even more. To me the claim rule is an insult to a racer, that has put time, effort and what every money he can scrap together to put a motor together, finish in the top 4 in a race, feeling good about it, and then have it all yanked out from under him for $500. Yeah, you can refuse the claim, then imca comes down and pentalizes you. Yeah right, that's a whole lot of fun.

Heres the facts, THe IMCA claim rule was not set up for 500.00 motors. Everyone knows it costs more than 500.00 dollars to build a motor. The claim was set up at the amount(orginally 350.00) for the amount of money a person could come up with, not the cost of the motor. Fact in order to be claim you must finish in the top 4, and be claimed by a person on the lead lap. Now that been said, and now there is a EXCHANGE. Which means you at least get a motor back to go race.
Now then, the g60 tire evens out the field . And if the tire such as the dirt boss would be allowed then the gap between the haves and have nots would get larger.

You just said the same thing I did. You must like getting your motor claimed or claiming others. More power to you.

I assume that SSRD45 and SS72 are street stock guys. Speaking from experience (since I race IMCA), the claim is the best thing going for the Modifieds. The idea isn’t to try and build a motor for $500 it is to keep a little fear of being claimed in the back of our heads at all times to prevent the big money teams from going all out and actually putting a $30k piece under the hood. For those who are not scared of being claimed IMCA requires us to run a spec tire to eliminate a huge horsepower advantage. If we go to a softer tire, that will be the demise of any growth. I would love to go and race Paris, however, if they run a different tire they will never see us! We wont go and buy tires to be competitive with the local weekly racers, don’t go and pigeon hole yourself and open the tire rule, KISS (keep it simple stupid) stick with what works.

Actually at one point I was trying to be a street stock guy. But I saw the direction the class was going and at the same time our track started the modified class. So I bought a Modified.
Troy your saying the same thing I was trying to say.
And the reason I sold the modified, my track was having some issues with being IMCA sac. or not, and the class was on everyones mind. So we made a command decsion. Build a big motor(with no one knowing what the rules are) or sale the car and MAKE money.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WOULD ALLOW US VISITORS TO RUN THE AR'S. I KNOW OF SEVERAL CARS THAT WOULD TAKE THE TRIP UP THERE. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CONSIDER AND IF NOT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BUY 5-6 OF THERES ON THE FIRST NIGHT TO RUN THERE ?

The Dirt bozz rule was a suggestion, the rules state G-60 AR or Hoosier. If they allowed the Dirt Bozz or the SS tire and the G-60's you would be wasting your time on trying to run with the g-60.

Both the american Racer and the Hoosier IMCA tire are G-60's
Perris can't say IMCA hoosiers or IMCA stamped American racers but they should have put the KK-704 American racer G-60
