Woodward, Prows, Dinger, all the favorites back in action Saturday night

OXNARD, CA (August 22) - Ventura Raceway returns to action Saturday night August 24 at 5:30 PM at our Ventura County Fair Facility after the 2013 Ventura County Fair break, with a full program of exciting open wheel and stock car racing. Saturday night is also the Race to Erase Hunger in association with Food Share of Ventura. Fans that bring three cans for the Food Share Cause will get you $3.00 off your admission

In VRA Sprint Cars Greg Taylor is back to go for another win this weekend after his win in the last VRA Sprint Car race July 13. The Taylor overcame challenges from Guy Woodward and Rick Hendrix for the victory. He will be here to go for another win tonight against the best VRA racers, including Troy Rutherford, Tom Hendricks, Guy Woodward, Rick Hendrix, Austin Deblauw, Luke Boles and many others.

In IMCA Modified racing, Josh Vogt got back to his winning ways with a win in the 20 lap feature at the last race on July 13. Once again, Vogt came from midpack and made a late race pass for his seventh win in 8 starts in 2013. Vogt is expected tonight to go for another win to add to his impressive resume here this season. Also scheduled to be here to go for the win in this exciting class are Dave Phipps, Robbie Witwer, Brad Prows, Jack Parker and past Ventura IMCA champion Donald Houghton.

VRA Mod Lites will return to action with point leader Ricky Lewis going for another win against Dave Dotson, Jeffrey Fry, Kris Kornder, Kim Lewis and Mike Gilmore. This class has been growing and the competition level continues to improve with each race.

In VRA Sport Compact racing, point leader and 2012 champion Zack Peterson will be going for another win. He will battle the rest of the drivers including last race winner Eric Griffin, Mike Stanford, Mira Cook, James Adler and the rest of the Sport Compact competitors. This class for four cylinder rear wheel sedans has been an important part of racing here at Ventura for many years.

Scott Dinger leads the VRA Hobby Stocks into action this week. The point leader has been very successful in the current season that has seen a resurgence of stock car racing here at Ventura. Others scheduled to be here include Fair race winner Gary Curtis, Tom Stephens Jr., David Heurung, Ernie Malone and Sam Garvin. The V8 powered machines have brought new interest in stock car racing here at Ventura as the class continues to grow.

The final group scheduled to race this weekend is the VRA Go Karts. Matt Jones leads the go kart racers into tonight's race. Justin Raper took the win at their last event on July 20th. He will be here to go for two in a row against the rest of the fine VRA Go Kart competitors.

Pit gates open at 12 noon with spectator gates opening at 3:00PM. Preliminary action gets under way at 3:30 with racing at 5:30. Admission for this event is $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors with Kids 12 and under free with an adult admission.
