Super Late Models Return to Santa Maria this Saturday!

(Santa Maria, CA) – Super Late Models are set to make their return to Chris Kearns’ Santa Maria Speedway this Saturday, August 18th. Two time West Coast Shootout Late Model and USAC/CRA Champion Mike Kirby leads the point’s standings going into the event. The Torrance native dominated the Bud Stanfield Memorial at the third of a mile clay oval on June 23rd, the only local point’s race of the season.

Kirby sits five points ahead of Nationals Champion John Lowrey of Bakersfield. Lowrey opened the Super Late Model season at the Santa Maria Speedway with the West Coast Shootout and captured a $5,000 pay day Memorial Day weekend. He led wire-to-wire becoming the third different West Coast Shootout winner of the season.

San Luis Obispo’s Steve “The Snake” Drake sits eight points out of the lead with defending track and West Coast Shootout Champion Clay Daly trailing three points. Bakersfield’s “Sandman” Rob Sanders completes the top five, three points behind Daly.

Richie McGowan Hobby Stocks, Toste Construction Mini Stocks, Vintage Sprints and Mini Dwarfs will join the Super Late Models on Saturday night. Gates open at 4:30 PM, qualifying at 5 PM and racing at 6 PM. Adult tickets are $16.00, seniors, military and students $14.00, kids 5-12 $6 and five and under free. Free camping is available.
