Title: Wheel bearings
Post by Meneley1 on 01/03/12 at 7:07pm

Does anybody sell bearings that are made in the U.S.A. anymore? Seems like just about all of the local part stores carry overseas bearings now. Where is the best place to find good quality bearings?

I'll try and find out where we got our last ones...They were a mix, some made in USA and some in Canada...

I think Timkins are still made here....

I was flabbergasted that a single floater hub bearing at a Auto Zone was like $60 last year, and you know all of theirs are imported

We go to Gordon Industrial Supply in Fresno...They are the type of place where you can still get drill bits made in the USA...LOL...pricey as heck though..

There used to be a King Bearing in Ridgecrest that served the China Lake Base and the Trona Plant, but lost the contract and went south.

Man, they used to have the deals, a ball cap and t-shirt, and somebody else paid for all our stuff... Lol

My dad worked for Timkin in Canton, Ohio for a short time right out of high school.  That was in the late 1930s.  I believe they're made overseas now.
I'm looking for bearings right now, USA made, for my Speedway Engineering 9" rearend.  Ones in now are Taiwan made.  Howe, which is one of the most dedicated American made parts builders,  has one bearing for one of their parts that they still can't get  USA built.  Sad situation.

Hey Bobby --- Just took a walk down to Coast Clutch and Brake, Betteravia Rd., Santa Maria.  They stock Timkin and say "most" Timkin bearings are still made in USA.  They also told me that "no" bearing supplier is 100% USA anymore.  This is the same information I got from Applied Industrial Tec (old Bearing Supply), here in SM..............

Just picked up my Timken rear end bearings at NAPA and was pleasantly surprised to find they were American made.  Were about $4 a piece more than the foreign stuff.  I do feel for the 10 year old in Taiwan or India whose job I may have put in danger.....not!!!
