Post by oldman98 on 12/07/11 at 9:33pm

i just purchased a 24 volt impact...charger...2 ni-cd rechargeable battery...300 ft lb...i purchased this CMT impact on ebay...under $130.00...i believe that this impact is the same impact that we paid like 235 bucks for and lasted for about 5 yrs...and it came with only one battery...i would like to do 2 things here...
1...i would like to here from people that have good and bad issues with impacts that they have purchased...brand name...battery voltage...how many batteries...cost...
2...if your looking for a good impact...look at this one...xtgear is the company that i bought it from...happy holidays...

I bought one at Harbor Freight, it works fine, problem is the batteries won't last for crap. I went to the track with three bateries and still wouldn't last the night.  19.2 volts.   A friend of mine bought one from AutoZone for around a hundred bucks, its lasted fairly well for one yr, but is getting week now. 24 volt .

They also last longer if you don't run over them in the pits!

Got a GreatNeck 24 volt NiCad with 2 batteries and the charger on sale at Pep Boys for $68 about 4 years ago and it's still working well.  Don't know the torque rating  but it does the job and the batteries are still good.

I have two.  Longacre and Mac.  The mac was around 400 and the battery only lasted a year.  It won't hold a charge for long.  Longacre came with two batteries one died after 2 years the other lasted for 4 so far.

I went through 2 of these before settling on the 3rd (lots of RMAing from Jegs). Now they have an even newer model that looks a lot like the Longacre one, it might be worth checking out. The problem isn't the gun, it's the batteries. They simply do not last. The 2 I sent back lasted about a month. The 3rd one lasted a year. I gave it to my uncle for his 4-Banger and it seems to be still working.

I bought the Longacre one this year and it has been a dream. It came with 2 batteries and some sockets. It holds a charge for a long time and has plenty of torque.

The Longacre battery fit inside the Jegs gun and works well, problem is the battery doesn't click and stay.

Actually it's only as long as you run out of air.  That's the same as a battery going dead.

Change the bottle ----- no diff than changing a battery.  Bottle "never" wears out ~~~~ batteries do.  ;D ;)

How long does a tank last, running an impact?

Just like anything else ----- depends on how much you use it.

DeWalt XRP with Lithium Ion 18v, batteries are much stronger and lighter than Ni-Cad

I finally broke a battery contact in the handle after 6 yrs of use, and Lowes had the impact only for $149

I used to replace the Ni-Cad's about every 3yrs, but the Lithium batteries, are going into their 2nd year

Has anyone tried the new Rockwell?  Seen some recent ads on the tube and it sounds good. Lithium 3/8" with 800 lbs. of torque and a full lifetime warranty on the battery.  Don't know the price but Rockwell stuff has usually been heavy duty.

Umm..... they don't have an impact, they have an impact driver (for tightening bolts, screws and things) with 800 IN/lbs of torque?

I bought a dewalt after going through a harbor freight special.  Even new the batteries on the HF gun were only good for one or two tires.

I have had the dewalt for 3 years.  Both batteries still going strong.  It was just under $300 though (kinda pricy).

4th season on a craftsman impact- we use it in the shop too....

Have a snap on- but it keeps killing the charger (blowing the fusible link)

I have a milwaukee impact going on 4th year. Works great, but it is HEAVY!! Bought on Amazon w/2 batteries, charger, and case for $289.00

I have a snap on that I have had for several years I know at 5 or 6.
I have killed two batteries and I have one left.  I haven't used it in about a year hope it still works..

They are expensive but it has been a good impact.

The teams I've worked with have had snap on impacts for years. As the "gun guy" on race time tire changes, I've yet to come across an impact in all my years as a crew chief that can match the power, durability, and torque (in real world applications) of the snap on piece. Down side is they are very spendy.

BUT...

Now that I'm starting my own program, I needed to find something and for the price of the new Craftsman C3 impact I got ($99), I was extremely impressed with the speed it spun the lugs and the torque it had. It is the only one I've come across that gets close to the snap on in those dept's. I think it might even be good for race time tire changing. I've tried Longacre, Dewalt, and a number of others I can't remember. Snapon was the best by far. I think this new craftsman piece is by far the 2nd best.

We had a snap-on one for years and I'm sure it still works for the thief who stole it from our pit cart in bakersfield too. lol We are now using the longacre.
