I'll have more details next week as I talk to the guy's with karts this weekend. We are not having lawnmowers, so the karts will have a couple of times on the track that night. Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by childressJr.16 on 05/11/10 at 8:04am RUN WHAT YA BRUNG!!!!!!!!! |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/11/10 at 9:33am He said run what ya brung in a drivers meeting on Sat. What we are looking for is either converted asphalt or dirt oval go karts. i'll post some links. http://www.gatormoto.com/index.cfm?action=ViewDetails&itemid=60 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Racing-LTO-Dirt-Offset-Go-Kart-chassis-gokart-cadet-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem45eaf5093dQQitemZ300294670653QQptZRaceQ5fCarQ5fParts These tires look like DLM tires kinda neat.... I think this would be a great class if people could get karts together. They are cheaper than Mini dwarfs and faster. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by 81RACERS__DAD on 05/11/10 at 9:57am Go to WWW.mizzleproductions.com. There is a link on his web site showing the Karts that run at SMS. Perhaps this is what you are looking for. I know of some guys (myself included) that would like to come over and have some fun. Thanks for the opportunity. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/11/10 at 10:38am I checked out the site and got some good info. Would be great if the two tracks could get a kart series going. So you only have two classes atm right? A stock class witch is anything that can run on gas and a Mod class ANY KART ON METHANOL AND/OR WITH A TILLOSON CARB WILL BE IN THE MODIFIED CLASS. That is for SMS atm if im reading it right? Can you post where people can get a cheap Kart to start? I see your classifieds and the Karts listed in there are like wow expensive. It seems these karts off ebay the ones I linked above are really well priced and prolly do great to have fun in. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by 81RACERS__DAD on 05/11/10 at 10:52am No there is more than 2 classes. They have classes from kids to the winged outlaw karts that have 500cc 2-stroke engines. We run on Sunday afternoons once a month. I don't know of a particular site to get karts "cheap". There is a guy here in Santa Maria that has a small shop in his garage that has good deals on used stuff. I can p/m his number if you'd like. Like any race car..you can spend as little or as much as you want. Depends on how fast and reliable you want to be. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/11/10 at 11:47am I'm pretty sure Scott is not looking to run anything on a Sunday. Rather just a filler for fun in the intermission. If i could become a full class then that would be great. I do think its something everyone wants to keep down in cost as must as possible. I have been even thinking that it would be more like a sealed motor kinda deal if it were to get legs. These first few races don't matter its just to test the waters to see if the interest is out there so the run what you brung will fit for now. If you look at the mini dwarfs they all have to run a sealed engine and that class is growing and growing. I feel some kinda of simple dirt kart class running a sealed engine with low cost would be great thing that will bring new fans and more revenue to the speedway. It wont last unless its promoted though. People have to know where to get karts and parts. Resources and what not. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by childressJr.16 on 05/11/10 at 12:04pm They did away with sealed motors in mini dwarfs!! |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/11/10 at 12:12pm when did they do that? wow, and why..... |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by childressJr.16 on 05/11/10 at 12:26pm THE start of this yr an im not exactly sure truthfully!! |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by kartracer8 on 05/11/10 at 1:02pm do 4 strokes only for the kartsand they will come 2stroke and 4strokes dont combine real well |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/11/10 at 6:22pm does anyone have links to places in Cali that make dirt oval go karts ? |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 9:50am BUMP, Scott said on another site that he is getting a LOT of people calling wanting to run Go Karts. Looks like this might turn out to be a new house class. If you haven't added Scott / Bakersfield Speedway on Face book yet here is his link. http://another site/#!/bakersfield.speedway |

Out here in oklahoma at the asphalt kart track they have a class that has a motor from harbor frieght,,, sealed motor no touch, its the only way to keep costd down but its still 2200-4000 to get one depending on what type of kart you want..motors from Harbor frieght cost around 500 I was told |

Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 10:06am im only seeing the winged Karts on there and they are not trying to get that kinda thing going. |

Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 10:13am awww, nice I think you could get one together for around 1500 if you just run in the stock class. Just to have fun and thats for a new frame even. You dont need a full firesuit either just the jacket, helmet, gloves, neck brace, Jeans |

its like any other class, you can go cheap but someone with money will always want the best and fastest they can get ,, lol,,The class I was gonna put my daughter in out here starts at around 4000 for base model all the way up to 12000 for full on best, guess what,, alot more full on karts are out there than the base model, hard to keep chin up when you can always have someone with better car kicking your arsss,,lol |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 10:25am I don't see that being the goal here for Scott. What lacks at Bako is something VERY affordable for adults and kids to do. Sure there are Mini stocks but that is even harder sometimes to find stuff and a lot of work. You need a full size trailer and what not. I think a guy could do this for fun with his son/daughter or together and have a blast! Keeping it basic is the key here. Sure your going to have the ones with money showing up with best of everything but they will be moved into the Mod class where they can have a battle of the $$$$. Thank you for the links its very helpful, Ive found some good deals on Ebay as well. Looking forward to seeing this take off. I'm going to call the two kart places here in town and see if they have any interest in coming out to the speedway and trying to sell some karts or talking to people to drum up new business. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by 18racr on 05/12/10 at 10:31am Hope it does well, kids need every chance at keeping out of trouble and to do so they need things like this to do,,, |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by childressJr.16 on 05/12/10 at 11:41am Its gonna be interesting to see who all has a KART!!! |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by MODDAD2 on 05/12/10 at 11:51am Make everyone run slicks the cost of tires is what will kill this. call out a max tire size and go race 7.10 X 5 would keep the cost down. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 4:24pm yeah i saw tires are not cheap but ive been told you can get used slicks that are tossed by the asphalt guys and grove them on your own. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by kartracer8 on 05/12/10 at 4:32pm dont set a tire size rule thats just dumb. pick a brand i would say burris and limit them to burris slicks and no prepping tires at track and that will keep cost way down. i won the west coast shootout race at tulare 2 years ago on 3 year old burris tires bc of tire maint. if you keep the tires in good shape they last a long time. biggest rule your gonna need to do is keep it 4 stroke only. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 7:21pm Your talking about running slicks on the Dirt right? Sorry if I sound like a retard but I've never done this and don't know much about it, im trying to learn. So you run slicks on the dirt track? |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by kartracer8 on 05/12/10 at 7:38pm yes slicks it will help keep the track smooth treaded tires will rip it up and put holes remember the biggest thing with flat kart racing is the track being smooth there is no suspension. www.burrisracing.com check out the tires dirt tires out here you would wanna run 11 or 22s the way compounds work 11's are softest and 55s are hardest 44s and 55s are asphalt tires. 11 22 33 are all dirt tires go to the burris tires then 6" slicks then u will the 4 sizes |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by ministocker56 on 05/12/10 at 7:42pm you can fine them cheap there are a few on e-bay , i bought a go-kart it's a hasse it has a 100cc yamaha i bought it for $650 |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by Schweitzer_82 on 05/12/10 at 8:09pm That is uber info bro thanks !!! only issue is Mini Dwarfs run the nobby tires on the same track so the karts would need to run on diff night. |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by MODDAD2 on 05/12/10 at 9:56pm no racer 8 you are dumb I didn't say set a tire size I said set a max tire size there is a differance.Einstein |
Title: Re: Go karts at Bakersfield speedway. Post by kartracer8 on 05/12/10 at 10:32pm well einstein ifyou were around karting you would know kart guys run 8.10 on the right side but if you wanna run 7.10 do so but look at the prices you dontsave money by settin a tire size you save money by settin a tire rule not size rule facts kart guys run 11x 5.0x6 on lf 11x6.0x6 on lr 11x8.10x6 on rf and rr burris tire prices 11x5.0x6 $59.15 11x6.0x6 $60.90 11x7.10x6 $62.30 11x8.10x6 $64.75 ok genius your right setting a max tire size will save everyone $2.45 that will surely kill the class if theydont have a max tire right? |
