Title: American Stocks
Post by larryc17lm on 04/30/10 at 6:37pm

What are we going to do for cars in 5 to 10 years from now in this division? Mid 70's cars are becoming extinct due to the increased prices of scrap iron.
I am having a hard time finding a rear end now. years ago they use to be a dime a dozen and now everyone has sent them to scrap yards. cars in the 80's are to short wheel base & they are about gone as well. 90's models don't have full frames.
What are we going to do??????

Caprices until they're gone, then small metrics is my guess.

Apparently the strut Camaros are pretty fast dirt cars, but they're really short wheelbase.

the class will be eliminated and we will only have mini stocks.

The strut Camaro's are fast, but the front ends cant take a lick of contact, or they're done for the night.

I think there is already aftermarket clips.

there will be an approved clip (stamped?)--IMO

I was just going down the list of cars that haven't been used up yet.

Ultimately, I agree we will have fab front clips.  Somebody already makes a full fabbed metric frame that has all stock suspension point geometry.  It's expensive though.

You don't need $20,000. You can build one from the ground up for $9,000 pretty easy. If you use stuff like radiator, seat, fuel cell, engine block, guages, pulleys, distributor etc. from your american stock, you can build one really cheap and be competitive.
The difference in motors from americans to hobbies is really just the cam. Then you would have to get a powerglide tranny and floater rearend, which is about $1,000.

I would be lucky too have 6,000 in mine. I'm not super fast but we get to the top 5 once in a while and if I had a little more time to work on the car I think I would be faster. It can be done on a tight budget if you are patient and do the work yourself.
